Unity Party do Brasil @ Unity - August 2, 2008 (Ale Bittencourt & Rafael Calvente)

DJs Ale Bittencourt and Rafael Calvente
Guest Singer: Amannda

Saturday night, and I find myself debating between going to Parking to check out Stéphan Grondin’s new CD release party, or watch Brazil taking over the Unity club, with 2 Deejays I haven’t heard before, but good sources advised me they were as good as Ana Paula.

If I had gone to the outdoors Sunset Party do Brasil, the choice would had been easy, but I didn’t and at the end the curiosity won, and Unity was the chosen venue for the night.

Ale Bittencourt was already spinning by the time I entered the club (midnight), and let me tell you, this was not a warm set, it was a set in its own. I actually have noticed that from the Brazilian Djs, it feels as if there are no warm up set, it doesn’t matter when they are performing, they just go and give their best for the night, which puts as lot of pressure on the headliner DJ.

Tribal is the rule in Brazil, and in order to move the people with tribal in this city, the DJ must bring their best possible set. Some people claim this style of music is not longer what we like to hear over here, and we have seen many Djs moving away from those sounds (Victor Calderone, Chus & Ceballos, Danny Torrence to name a few), but both Bittencourt and Rafael showed passion for Tribal is still alive and kicking hard in this city.

Unfortunately I did not have the chance to talk to ale, but he spoke to the crowd with this contagious and vibrant music. It was just incredible the feeling you felt at the club, people were arriving and joining the dance floor right away. Strong Tribal tunes were released from those speakers and it was non stop from beginning to end.

Great build ups with strong ends, no teasing at all, just getting what you expected at the right moment and in the perfect dosage. He also added some progressive happy tunes, but because he was the DJ that started the night, many people only caught the end leg of his set, including me.

If I’m not mistaken, Amannda performed at the end of Ale’s set, and let me tell you, this girl not only sing, but she also dance like no other. Beautiful voice and I actually recognized some of her tunes. I’m positive that after her performance at the club, her music might actually get embraced by other Djs in the city. Great vocal, catchy tunes, what else do you need eh?

While this was happening I saw the security open up space for this handsome guy walking towards the DJ booth. Good morning Mr. Rafael Calvente, and I’m sorry Amannda, I could not continue looking at her show because I was distracted by the newest personality in the club.

Amannda live at Unity Club

It didn’t take long, and Rafael walked by me again, and this time I introduced myself - I told him I would be watching - and besides of being handsome, this guy is so sweet, big smile in his face, and as I said before, Good Morning Rafael.

As soon as took over the DJ booth, he took off his shirt (a la David Morales) and started one of the strongest tribal sets I have seen at the Unity club. It was hard, it was dark, it was happy, it had vocals, it had instruments, it had everything you need in order to make you body move until it says it will stop now because it can’t take anymore.

People did not stop dancing one second, everybody was sweating like crazy, and even my socks got wet - they never get wet, but it was too much. Rafael enjoyed what he saw because he kept giving more and more to the crowd. Big smile all night long.

Beautiful sexy dancers all over the place, great mix of people from different ages and sexes, and perhaps I only found some of the crowd to be a little bit pushy and not too friendly, but not everyone was like that, and I had a great time with my friends.

The place was packed in every single floor, and the best of all was to see all the Brazilian entourage dancing with the crowd; Ana Paula, Amannda, Ale and many others.

Rafael got a little bit hard at one point, it just reminded me of Victor Calderone when he gets into his exorcist rituals with his techy sounds, difference being that Rafael uses Tribal instead. Probably one 2 songs played by Ale were repeated by Rafael, but they were great songs so I didn't mind hearing them again.

Guys, it was just an amazing experience to be part of this party with these 2 Brazilian Djs. Ana Paula was discovered last year during the Divers/Cité Sunset Party, and she has opened the doors to another 2 great deejays this year.

Bittencourt and Rafael don’t be surprised if you are called to perform again in our city. In this city we love music, and you have to be good to do well here, and you both have proved to be talented and deserve to return to Montreal.

The only bad thing of the night, was the fact I was unable to go to the Climaxxx Party with Danny Torrence, because I had no more energy left in my body to do an afterhours party.
