and Morales is also back
you can bet this party is going to be off the hook, and you cannot miss this one.

Victor is coming to town
by now you all know that Victor Calderone will be at Stereo on Monday Canadian Thanksgiving. Unofficially we all know that is the party everyone goes after the famous massive party happening on Sunday night. I'm supposed to go to the Sunday night event, but if I do that I cannot go to the party on Monday night, and something tells me this is something not to be missed. Should I do the party on Sunday night or Monday night?

Unfortunately I'll be in Los Angeles on Saturday, but if you are in Montreal there is no excuse for you not to be at Parking for Grondin's birthday party.

Hex Hector @ Stereo - September 19, 2009
This is the first time that I actually don't go to Stereo right at the beginning. I knew Sunday was going to be beautiful and Sunny day, therefore I decided to sleep until 5:00am and get to the temple by 6:00am. It was just perfect this way, got to enjoy my Sunday morning dance, and because I was well rested I was able to actually enjoyed the rest of my Sunday, and even made it to the Piknic Electronik.
Confession of the day, I thought it was going to be DJ Vibe, instead I learned before leaving my house that Martijn Ten Velden, Bear and Hex Hector were the invited DJs for the night. I might have arrived at the end of Bear' set, and if I'm not mistaken he might have taken turns with Hector at the decks, but mainly I heard Hector on Sunday morning, and please understand whatever you will read is entirely my personal view.
It was kind of weird and exciting to walk up those stairs again, and my eyes wandered everywhere trying to capture everything that has changed, and I must say , everything changed. Someone actually wrote somewhere that this was like Stereo of the future, and I must say it is right on statement.
The lower level has been transformed into this transition area, where you can actually relax and chill out, while either waiting for your friends to come out of the futuristic looking toilets, or just gathering your strength to continue or to start dancing. Red sofas and a metallic wall hiding very industrial looking bathrooms, and don't forget to hit those faucets - it took me a while to guess what to do in order to get water out of those things. This area is still under work, and it is a major improvement compared to the past. Nice touch to keep incense burning in the area during the night.
The final set of those famous stairs that lead you to the dance floor, are made of this beautiful wood that just take your breath away. Suggestion to Stereo, it would be a good idea to add low lights underneath the first step from the top to the bottom, think airplanes landing smoothly instead of crash landing, this would give an idea to the people where the stairs actually begin.
Walking up and you see this monster speaker that looks like the back of Megatron (Transformers), and if you look closely at the shining metal frame in the middle, the reflection of one of those vaguely looking red crosses on the ceiling, is reflected on it, given the impression that you are walking up towards an altar, talk about temple of music.
Those red "crosses" can be found in the lower level and in the what used to be the bar and DJ deck upstairs. The place is just beautiful, I must admit it took me sometime to get used to my new home, and although I will miss the underground feeling of the old Stereo, I like the futuristic look of the new one.
The dance floor is just beautiful, if before was nice now is divine, and I understand why the no chewing gum policy, and people if you smuggle chewing gum in, make sure to dispose it in the appropriate place.
The dance floors looks bigger, with two giants screens placed in the left and right walls, having the elevated DJ deck located right in the middle of the back wall, where the old dance stage used to be located. The new DJ deck must be beautiful, but it has lost some of the intimate feeling the old one used to have, plus I believe the DJ is only able to see half of the dance floor. The VIP area is located right beside the decks, behind a glass wall, thinking about it, maybe a glass wall should be in front of the decks as well.

The sound is just crystal clear, and I probably danced almost all morning in front of Megatron and left the place with no ringing ears, which tells you something. I must say I wish the disco ball was not so high up, but again if they lower it will probably get in the middle of the view of the DJ, Stereo can we compromise here? I would love to have the disco ball closer to the ground, and bringing dancers with mini disco balls attached to their arms won't do it.
If you look at the back, what used to be the front before, there are two stairs that leads you to the third level of Stereo (VIP and decks are the fourth power), where the bar is now located and some deserved seating for the hard working dancers of the night. Red is the colour of the moment, and I really like those "red crosses" in the ceiling. Forgot to mention, the smokers were raving about their new mini hall that takes them to the new old smoking stylish area, didn't go there so don't know what to tell you but I will take their world on it.
Enough about the place? Then lets go to the people. The magic line of straight and gay is still present, but because now the dance floor is not square but more like a rectangle, the lines are much more blurred, nevertheless the right is still more gay an shirtless and the left much more straight and covered. There were many old faces, and surprisingly many first timers. Some Stereoheads have gone into retirement and will come out only once in a while, and this is why I ask the Stereo alumni that when present to the temple, please make sure to transmit the Stereo vibe in its best form so they can learn and pass it along to the others.
This was the third weekend since the grand reopening, and even though I missed half of the party, I can tell you the energy and vibe was there to make this party a night to remember. Unfortunately I felt as if Hex Hector did not give his best music wise, I know he is capable of more, and I love the fact he played this great tribal sounds, and he made me nostalgic with some great tunes from the past, but I also was expecting something fresh and harder, because the energy of the dancers was there to be used and abused. I must admit he improved dramatically by the end of the "night" but perhaps he should had hit those notes earlier on. Loved the Latin beats that actually made me sweat like crazy, and loved the build ups Hector gave us, but I think the energy was there to be kept high for a longer period of time compared to what he gave us.
I was expecting more music wise from the third Saturdays at Stereo, and please take note I'm not saying the music was bad, but it could had been better, said that I really enjoyed my evening at the temple, and there is no way to tell you how I felt about going back home, and this home is a grown up one, one with more experience and probably one that will start taking more risks.
The staff was fantastic, new faces, new place, new home, but with the same concept, it doesn't matter if you are black or white, gay or straight, men or women, fat or fit, ugly or beautiful, we are all there under the super high located disco ball to have fun and to dance until the lights come on and when they tell us it is time to go home. In Berlin when I visited Berghain & Panorama bar they told me "don't forget to go home", but at Stereo "we are at home".

and talking about magazines, this blog is expanding boys and girls, and my friend Jeppy has been officially invited to become a contributor to this blog, invitation which he accepted. Jeppy is based out of New York City, so don't get confused if you start seeing more stuff related to the Big Apple.

Sascha Funke @ Piknic Electronik - September 13, 2009
sorry guys but Paul Kalkrbenner couldn't make it today to Montreal (he "lost" his passport in Germany), James Teej replaced him - anyway, but Mr. Sascha Funke is scheduled to start playing at 7:00pm - I'm still debating if I should go or not.
and if you don't go, you can always check their online broadcast http://piknicelectronik.com/
Full version of the song below
Edit: I'm glad I decided to go because I really liked Sascha - what a perfect way to end the week, great music, nice vibe, amazing weather, good friends, there was only one thing missing for me, I can't do anything about that right now. Here are some pictures, and I'm sorry about the quality but my Xenium Philips cell phone is not the best for this task.

Black & Blue 2009 - Countdown
The Black & Blue Festival is less than a month away boys and girls, and there are many heavy weights coming to Montreal for that party and others.

By the way, my feeling is that the temple might bring back the "unofficial" recovery party back to where it belongs (and we know who would be spinning that one eh?), because the "official" one is happening elsewhere.

Electric Zoo - New York - September 5-6, 2009
"So what turned out to be one of the nicest weekends of the whole summer in NYC, was only made better by the Electric Zoo Music Festival. This is a brand new electronic music festival that was put on by the veteran promo-group Made Event at Randall's Island Park in New York City. The festival featured 4 stages, over 50 artists, and ran from 11am-11pm on both Saturday and Sunday, the 5th & 6th of September respectively. I cannot speak for Saturday because I did not attend, but I heard very good comments from those who did. Those who attended Saturday were treated to sounds from the likes of Armin van Buuren, Deadmau5, Kaskade, Second Sun, Roger Sanchez, Chus & Ceballos, Robbie Rivera, Benny Benassi, Danny Tenaglia, Luciano, Marco Carola, Paco Osuna and Tiga just to name some of them.
Knowing that I was going on Sunday and knowing that there were many DJ's who I wanted to see, I made myself a schedule since the people at Electric Zoo announced the lineup times ahead of time. I got to the park a little late so I missed the first 2 DJ's I wanted to see, Jason Jollins and Jerome Isma-Ae - but big deal - I was still able to see 10 others.
Menno de Jong - It's easy to see why this young phenom is rising so quickly in the trance music charts. The energy he was harnessing under the Riverside Arena tent was simply unbelievable. From the time he started till he finished and hour and a half later, everyone was on their feet jumping up an down with hands in the air the whole time. He played a lot of uplifting happy trance that seemed to often have a techno/rock tinge too at times. He was really enjoyable.
Guy Gerber - A progressive beast! Really the only pure progressive DJ I was able to see of the day and he definitely delivered. He had an every so slow build where you kept asking for more and more. Before you know it, the bass he was blowing had you dancing like crazy and the beats were relentless. Definitely one of my favorites during the day.
Josh Gabriel - From the former group, Gabriel & Dresden - he seemed to have his group of people really bouncing around in there with a mix of techno with some other vocal rock sounding songs. I really couldn't get into it, but if that's your thing, you would have enjoyed it - I know a lot of people were.
Steve Angello, Ferry Corsten, Markus Shultz - only heard each for a half hour or so at the main stage so it would be wrong to really comment much on their performances. However, many people who stuck around for Steve Angello's entire set were telling me it was some of the best music they have ever heard.
I heard a lot of David Guetta who closed out the main stage at the end of the night. The man was so excited - he got on top of the dj booth and jumped up and down and started running across the stage jumping all over the place. At one point - picked the mic up and said the crowd had him shivering because he was so excited. At another point he commented that it was an amazing party and he will never forget it for the rest of his life. Played mostly all of his commercial hits and new songs from his recent album. Two songs that stand out for me was one with the vocal line: Michale Jackson is Still Alive and another that went... "I'm David Guetta Bitch!" I have no idea what either were all about. The crowd at the main stage was huge and very excited to see him - that's all I know! Overall he was pretty enjoyable.
My favorites of the entire day were Adam Beyer and Victor Calderone - 2 techno wizards! Adam Beyer's set was ridiculous - the beats were so hard and relentless I couldn't even think straight. Just when I thought he would be my favorite of the day, Victor Calderone arrived with what I'm tempted to say is my favorite set of his to date! The crowd was going crazy the whole time he was on and the song selection was simply amazing. When songs hit you that hard and are that enjoyable, and you can not name one of them - you know the dj has done something good. It's my opinion on that on Sunday, Victor Calderone represented NYC to his fullest and out-shined all the other dj's, many who are ranked well above him on the dj charts. Bravo Victor! Well Done!
I do have to mention that as I was leaving, Richie Hawtin was playing and he did sound like another techno king, but since I didn't hear more than 10 minutes of his set, I really can't comment more than my very quick synopsis.
After attending Electric Zoo all day, I made my way over to Alegria w/the rest of the gays! The hero of my night was DJ Paulo. The first DJ Giangi Cappai of Rapido Amsterdam was a very fair warm up DJ, but not too good. His selection of songs was very inconsistent and he seemed to skip around a lot from dark to light music and it just wasn't enjoyable. Renato Cecin of Brazil was slightly better - he started out very happy and started to go dark and tribal but then like the first dj, he seemed to become very inconsistent although his style did suit the Alegria crowd very well. Just not my cup of tea after seeing 12 of the top djs in the world during the day. DJ Paulo however - totally different story! Dark, Delicious, and Tribal. He brought the drums, he brought the bitchery, he brought it all. DJ Paulo definitely worked the system there and deserves to be brought back to Alegria. Next to the Alegria featuring Chus & Ceballos, DJ Paulo's 4 hours alone made it probably my 2nd most enjoyable ever. Looking forward to him coming back - hopefully! One can only take so much of Tony Moran and Abel.
One more note on electric zoo - entrance line was quick and security quickly frisked people without being intrusive, bathrooms were aplenty, there was a large rain forest misting station set up if you were hot and the crowd was super friendly and especially gay-friendly. I was super impressed by the whole setup from MADE event and this was truly the best party I have every been to, to date. Even the dj's started playing at exactly the time they were supposed to go on according to the schedule - not one minute sooner or later. The only thing I regret is not going on Saturday also. I heard that they expected 20,000 over the 2 days and ended up with over 30,000 attendance. I also heard they have the same 2 days booked ahead for next year...so start planning on being there now - mark your calendars."
Expect to hear more from Jeppy1229 in the near future.

Guys, it really doesn't matter what I write for this Saturday night, and although I was at Parking (Rafael Calvente), what everyone wants to hear about is how Stereo grand opening night is going. Sorry Rafael Calvente, I might come back with a summary of your night, but let me tell you what I saw in front of (((Stereo))).
After Parking, I decided to walk over Stereo and saw some friends in line. It sounds like the final inspection lasted longer than expected, causing a delay in the opening of the doors. I was there at around 3:30pm and I was told the doors had kind of just opened, and the line was stretching around the block. I could hear people walking around the front doors, on the cell phones, talking to some people inside asking how to get in - "willing to pay anything but get me in" - sold out night and good luck in case you get there with no tickets. Probably you should wait until 5:00 or 6:00m in case you are one of those with no tickets.
What about me? I would had loved to go, but decided a couple of days ago I'm going to wait a couple of days until I get my normal (((Stereo))). I'm sure the opening night will be great, perhaps with some glitches here and there, but that is normal and expected, specially after what happened at the place.
No Patius review for the opening weekend, but I'm sure we are going to hear about them soon enough - some people will love it, others hate it, you know the usual thing. But do expect a Patius review in the next couple of weeks

Alegria will be hosted by Giangi Cappai, Renato Cecin and DJ Paulo - this will be the first time Renato Cecin (The Week São Paulo resident) spinning at this party, and I think the people will enjoy his music, which I find is a perfect fit for this party.

Regardless if Stereo is opening or not this coming Saturday, this could the the perfect warm up for an all night long dancing type of Saturday. Have seen him at Unity, and I think he is going to do well at Parking.

STEREO NIGHTCLUB: The Party Will Go on!
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Sept 4th, 2009
STEREO NIGHTCLUB: The Party Will Go on!
Montreal’s Stereo Nightclub was victim to a small fire, although minimal damage was made in the early hours of Tuesday 1st September. Stereo was scheduled to launch an extravagant five-day reopening during this Labor Day Weekend starting Thursday 3rd September – Monday 7th September.
Stereo owner Tommy Piscardeli commented, “I’m not even angry. Something bad happened here, but something good is going to come out of it.” Piscardeli’s partner and Stereo co-owner Mike Rein added, “we have a plan and a vision for Stereo, and nothing is going to stop us from achieving what we have set out to accomplish.”
Angel Moraes, one of the originators of Stereo was set to kick start the festivities on Thursday September 3rd, as part of a very special media VIP industry night, which unfortunately had to been cancelled. Moraes added, “Stereo has become a home for DJ's and clubbers here in Montreal and from around the world who love this place very much, regardless of what's happened in the last few days you CANNOT break down that love or spirit. We will prevail and Stereo will be as it always has been, one of the best clubbing experiences one could ever have. Thanks to everyone for their love and support. WE’RE ALMOST HOME”.
Hector Romero who is and has been one of Stereo’s resident artists for the past several years commented, “I consider Stereo my home and when I heard the news about the fire it truly affected me. The Montreal clubbing community wants and needs Stereo in their lives – and now more than ever! And the haters can’t stop them from dancing – ‘cause Music is The Key!"
Over one hundred volunteers showed up on Tuesday & Wednesday night, working around the clock, to help with the clean up of Stereo, proving how this legendary nightclub still stands as a Mecca to clubbing fans all over the world. †The Commercial Development Society (SDC) of Montreal’s Village along with the city’s Tourism Board, the office of the Mayor of Montreal, Montreal’s Chief of Police and Fire Department; are conscientious about the current situation and, together have all agreed to hold a formal meeting with Stereo’s team next week (Friday, September 11th) to discuss long term solutions for the efficient operation of Stereo as well as the success of this world class institution.
Grammy Award winner, Sharam from Deep Dish was scheduled to showcase Stereo’s new live staged set-up, Tonight - Friday September 4th, with his infamous “Get Wild Live Show” with midget cowboys and Get Wild dancers, which also featured vocalist Anousheh Khalili, as well as additional support from Sultan and Ned Shepard. Although this event has been cancelled, it will be a show not to be missed. Additional information concerning the possible rescheduling of this event along with instructions for current event ticket holders will be released promptly during the day on by end of today on Friday, September 4th.
The highly anticipated “Stereo Saturday’s” event on September 5th, will also go ahead as planned (pending final approval from Montreal’s fire department inspectors) introducing their new Saturday concept, where a surprise hi-profile guest DJ will grace the Stereo decks….all will be revealed on the new and improved Stereo dance floor!
Roger Sanchez is set to perform as scheduled (pending final approval from Montreal’s fire department inspectors), his 8 hour + marathon set marking his long awaited return to Stereo on Sunday 6th September, followed by the finale event on the waterfront of Montreal’s old port at Ile de Bonsecours in association with Neon. Artists include Tiga, Adam Beyer, Clive Henry, Audiofly, Martin Buttrich Live, Jordan Dare and Maher Daniel all confirmed for this outdoor event.
This most recent fire marks the second time in just over a year that the legendary nightclub has been targeted. The Stereo team had worked diligently around the clock for the past eight months, (after a fire gutted it in July 2008) developing the new face of Stereo, with hopes of revitalizing Montreal’s nightlife. World renowned dj/producer Mark Farina simply states, “Stereo Montreal is setting an example, and raising the bar in global clubbing”.
After having concluded a formal meeting on Thursday with city officials, Representatives of Stereo’s management team stated, “we are very confident that we will have a firm decision by end of day, (Friday September 4th) regarding Stereo’s official re-opening. And, It looks very positive!” Please visit www.stereonightclub.net for further information.

Stereo Update
according to angel on facebook (September 3, 2009):
Incredible love for Stereo, the community has rallied behind the temple and helped out with the cleaning. Nothing official yet, but there is a lot of work to make the grand opening this weekend, and even if Stereo can't open its doors, what a demonstration of solidarity for this club.

"My friends, From Stereo's stand point WE CAN BE OPEN THIS WEEKEND. Although we ask that you understand that it is not completely under our control as the fire marshal still needs to inspect and aprove the venue. With this in mind lets pray that all the help and positive energy from all of you spills over to the powers that be. Fingers crossed"

This Blog Supports (((STEREO)))
It makes sick to think there are people out there that are unable to embrace the success of an establishment, and not being able to destroy our dream once, they are trying the second time.
Stereo is an unique place, and I have traveled to many cities and I'm still haven't been able to find a club that I can call my second home, as I have done with Stereo. I have searched for "that" vibe, the feeling of been somewhere, where it doesn't matter if you are gay or straight, young or old, fat or fit, ugly or beautiful, man or woman, where the only thing we care about is that you are having a good time, and that you are dancing.
I feel fortunate and privileged that I have had the chance to spend so much time at this place. I have learned many things about music, have met wonderful people, and gotten myself into interesting situations, and all because of Stereo.
I'm scared to start counting how many hours of dancing I have spent at the temple, and my hopes are that more people will have the chance to do the same thing, in a world class club called Stereo. This blog completely supports Stereo, its staff and its followers.
Hopefully the perpetrators of this arsenal will be found and persecuted, and I hope Stereo does not give up and keep fighting to survive, because today more than ever we are all Stereoheads.
Stereo - not again

Latest news: "Stereo nightclub fire was arson: Montreal police"
A Tuesday morning fire at the popular nightclub Stereo in the Gay Village was arson, Montreal police confirmed.
The fire started shortly after 4 a.m. and was put out in less than an hour.
After an investigation, an arson squad confirmed that accelerants were found on the scene.
The blaze marks the second time in just over a year that the popular destination at 858 Ste. Catherine St. E. has been targeted.
Stereo was scheduled to launch an extravagant five-day reopening on Sept. 3 after a fire gutted it in July 2008.
No one was charged in that arson. The police have no suspects in this morning's blaze, either.
"It's still too early to say if the two are linked," said Montreal police Constable Annie Lemieux, who also commented that the accelerant was "not a Molotov cocktail."
A female security guard discovered the fire after hearing "what sounded like a small explosion" at 4:15 a.m., Lemieux said.
The three-floor building sustained major damage before firemen could extinguish the conflagration.
Arson investigators are still on the scene.
