Happy Birthday David Morales (August 21)

You see, to celebrate his birthday usually David Morales would be scheduled to spin tonight at Stereo (last Saturday of August), unfortunately due to the arson that occurred at the temple, Morales will have his celebration elsewhere in Montreal (Sensation).

I won't be able to make it to Sensation (work on Monday), but I wish him many many more celebrations in the years to come. Happy Birthday (((David Morales)))

Rauhofer @ Parking

and there is also Stéphan Grondin and Patrick Dream the day after for "Perfect Sundays" night.

Sensation Black - Amsterdam - July 12, 2008

Quebec City is having Sensation and so is Montreal, but lets have a look on what Amsterdam did for their Sensation Black back in July. The video below shows the intro to the party:

so are you going to Sensation?

Chus & Ceballos @ Opera

Last time I was at this place it was still called "Le Dome", gosh it has been a long time.

Tommer Mizrahi @ Parking - August 23, 2008

I had no idea who was going to spin at Parking last night, and to tell you the truth I had never heard of Tommer Mizrahi.

What did I think? Bizarre, and I'm sure there are lots of people that love his style, but it was kind of iffy for me. The reason why I'm saying it was bizarre is because individually each song played was fantastic, unfortunately it was not well tied up together. It is like when you drink an amazing beer and it is warm, the taste will not be the same, it has to be cold.

There were lots of build ups, but I didn't find he delivered at the end, perhaps if he had been able to join those great tracks with different music, maybe I would had felt the taste of it. Nevertheless, there were tons of happy people, and Tommer himself looked as if he was having a good time.

Parking got busy, but empty out a bit afterwards, there was actually room to dance. My understanding is that Tommer is a great Israeli producer, and I truly believe it by listening to his tracks last night, but putting all those great tracks together is another story. Anyway, this is my personal view and please feel free to disagree with me.

Bye Beijing and hello London

Black & Blue 2008 - Digital Paradise - October 8-14, 2008

Probably most of you already heard, this year's main event will be held on Sunday, October 12, at the Montreal Convention Center (Palais des Congrès).

and I must say flash back of what has happened to the Bal en Blanc comes to mind. I really hope the BBCM is able to avoid the issues faced by the Bal en Blanc at the door. Nevertheless, this is one of the BBCM parties that you should not miss.

More info will be posted here once I get the official memo.

The Black & Blue 2008 theme: « DIGITAL PARADISE »

Think of a place where mankind is at peace, a place where there is no sorrow, no grudge, no inequalities, a place where the only thing that matters is life itself, to live in harmony.

Technologically and intellectually advanced, DIGITAL PARADISE has been kept secret by the authorities as they feared that it would compromise the implanted social stereotypes conceived to eliminate the minorities. DIGITAL PARADISE embodies a perfect terrestrial life in which the parties never end, the music is always divine. In the DIGITAL PARADISE world, what stands out is sharing and exchanging with one another instead of pure capitalism and selfishness. At the Montreal Convention Centre, on October 12, the Black & Blue 2008 participants will be immersed into an intense festive paradise where all the world’s wonderful creatures (gay, straight, lesbian, transsexual, etc.) will unite to celebrate a tribute to this perfect sublunary Eden, still unknown to many, but on the verge of blossoming!

(((Stereo))) 102

Last Friday I had a drink or two with Mr. Stereo, and he filled me in with what is going on with the place.

I won't give you reopening dates, because we all know once we say one thing, and it doesn't happen, then more rumours get started, but I will tell you this, Stereo will reopen sooner or later.

In order to start the renovations, the place is only waiting for cooperation from mother nature and for doña seguradora to send a cheque.

The reopening party will be hosted only by local DJs, and afterwards is when the international cast will begin their peregrination to the temple. There are several new ideas for the place, and yes, the walls will get covered by a new technological wonder - it is all about the sound right? The booth might get moved, but who knows, this is (((Stereo))) we are talking about here.

Since David Morales might be looking for another venture, they might be looking for another partner for the place, so if you are interested and have some money to invest, then just get in touch with the (((people))) in charge - and yes, David Morales is still one of the main resident DJs.

FIRE AT STEREO

First I want to thank all of u that hv sent, emailed, and texted me messages of love and support. God knows we all need it sometimes!

Yes, I'm sorry to say that there's been a fire at STEREO.
It's been proven that it is an act of ARSON!

It's really sad to know that we hv some real evil people out there.
The place that I call home, the place where we've spent countless journeys and musical experiences. The place where we've all laughed, danced and cried together, where we've made new friends..........
I cry as I write this and I'm not ashamed to say so because STEREO is a part of my life. She is my mistress. :-)

Rest assured that STEREO has NOT been burnt to the ground.
There's been some damage yes but nothing that can't be fixed.
I cannot tell u what the future holds for me regarding STEREO.

I will keep u all posted on any news and developements.

Regards
D

The important thing is (((Stereo))) will return, and oh my gosh how I miss this place. There are many chances happening to the new Stereo, and now is all about wait to see what's going to happen.

(((Baby come back)))

Saturday I was not supposed to go out, the idea was to watch a movie with some friends - finally got to see the Batman movie and it is fantastic. Afterwards we decided we needed sangria, and next thing you know we were seating in a terrace somewhere in the village.

What is next? I found myself dancing to the tunes of Manny Lehman at Parking. I thought the place was going to be empty because people were still not fully recovered from the Divers/Cité week - how wrong I was, the place was packed and it was a lot of fun.

Finally, in an act of "je ne sait quoi", I decided that closing time at Parking was not the closing time for my night. I was in no condition to drive to the afterhours in Laval, and the only establishment where I could actually walk was Circus.

Just one thing to say:

Please Stereo come back, nothing wrong with Circus***, but unfortunately it is not Stereo. Please baby come back.

***no intention intended in putting Circus down or anything like that, I'm sure there are tons of people that find this to be the best place in the whole world, and I respect everybody's taste.

"you and Me" - I like the song, Liu Huan voice is nice and soft, I just wish they had used Sarah Brightman's voice in a much more powerful way, it almost disappears at one point.

Divers/Cité Ball @ Telus Theatre - August 3, 2008 (Alain Jackinsky, Oscar Velazquez & Ana Paula)

Djs: Alain Jackinsky, Oscar Velazquez and Ana Paula.

Sad was how I felt when I found out Stereo would no longer be able to host the Divers/Cité Ball this year, everyone knows how much I love that venue, and I really hope it opens up soon. Nevertheless, after seeing how many people came out for this party, I was actually okay to have it held at the old Aria place.

Four years ago I had one of the most incredible experiences at this place, it was then called the Prideball and it was Peter Rauhofer the headliner of the night. Met wonderful people and this experience will stay with me for a long time.

Today the party is called the Divers/Cité Ball and one Canadian, one Mexican and one Brazilian were the ones in charge of our entertainment. I’ve been trying to save energy all week long for this party, being this one the only afterhours party I decided to do.

Alain Jackinsky I’ve seen performing many times, and sometimes I feel he gets a little bit intimated by large crowds, nevertheless besides of being handsome he is good in what he does; Oscar Velazquez, although is another Parking resident, I have never being able to be in one of his nights; then we have Ana Paula, which I discovered in 2007 and felt in love with her since.

No Unity, no Sky, no Parking, no Circus, no nothing, the night belonged to the Telus Theatre and nothing else mattered.

Security was much more serious during this night compared to the previous parties, this according to my crazy friends that attended all 3 parties at this venue. It took a little bit of time in order to get everyone in, but there was no drama, just lots of people looking for a good night of dancing.

Parking must be feeling great having 3 of its DJ residents taken care of the main Divers/Cité party. I don’t think words would do justice in trying to recreate what I experienced on Sunday night, and I’m pretty sure the Deejays felt the same way about the vibe of the place.

Alain Jackinsky started the night and I’m sure he felt lots of pressure having not only a very large crowd to please, but also 2 strong DJs following after him. His set was good, I just felt as if he was trying to find the right away to lift the party. Good selection of music, maybe he could had played a little bit harder. I’ve seen him playing many times, and I know he is an excellent DJ, unfortunately I do have to compare him to both stars that followed, and because of that I was expecting much more from him. Maybe he just didn’t want to tire the crowd so early

I believe it was around 3:00am when Oscar Velazquez was announced, and by then the place was just packed. I had already found the perfect place to dance and I did not want to move from there.

What a surprise Señor Velazquez gave me, I was not expecting that at all, and I just found he was voted the Mexican DJ of the year 2008, and now I understand why. Oscar played a hard Tribal Latin set, a little bit on the commercial side, but nevertheless super uplifting.

Strong energy vibrating from the DJ booth, which was followed by the crowd as if we were doing synchronized swimming, and not just that, Sylvain (Stereo) was in charge of the light show and he did an amazing job keeping up with the music and the crowd. It was not too dark, not too light, just perfect lighting when needed.

Several tunes that we know where played, but he also introduced us to some Spanish songs I have never heard before, and all of them were full of energy. It was just amazing to see the crowd moving like waves to his music, dancing hard and I was thinking “this people are going to get tired soon” - “I’m going to get tired if he keeps up the intensity of the music“.

Oscar was consistent from beginning to end, uplifting all the way, maybe just bringing down the house for a music or two, but followed but another full intensity blast of musical happiness. Great house music played by Velazquez, great combination of vocal and hard rhythms that spiced it up the whole place with great tunes. By then my mouth was already hurting because I couldn’t stop smiling.

The crowd was another story, there were tons of good looking people at the Telus Theatre, it was actually sickening to see how many good looking people were present at this place. People in Jeans, people in shorts, people wearing hats, not t-shirts, in their swimsuits, in their shorts. You get the idea, there was someone for everyone and everybody. It was crowded, it was sexy, it was wild, it was Montreal on a party night.

The only thing missing were the boxes for people to dance on, and I don’t know why but that makes the place look even sexier - why is that?

Please correct me if I’m wrong but I believe Ana Paula started her set at around 5:00am or was it 6:00am? It doesn’t matter, I was in the bathroom when I heard the host announcing her name and I just run back to where I was because I did not want to miss her entrance.

The crowd went wild, and I’m sorry Brazil but we have now officially adopted DJ Ana Paula as one of our own. Can someone please call Immigration Canada to see if we can grant her the Canadian citizenship?

It is not joke, the moment everyone was waiting had arrived and Ana Paula did not disappoint. She started her set with hard dark tribal tunes, which was surprising because I thought she was going to follow the steps of Oscar Velazquez, but then it hit me, she does not follow anyone steps but her own.

I don’t know how to explain this to you, but this has been one of the best sets I have ever heard in my life, she played hard, she played intense music, she played to the gods, and the best of all is that, for her the gods are the crowd dancing to her music. She is charismatic and energetic and is more than able to energize everyone in her presence.

The music was so good that many times I found myself getting chills by just listening to what she was delivering. Talking to one of my friends we arrived to the conclusion that Tony Moran should really look into booking her for the Alegria parties in New York City, she would be the perfect DJ for this party.

I don’t know how she did it but she kept the intensity of the party way up there all night long, there were no lows or highs, you just heard great tribal music coming out of those speakers. There was a moment when I stop right in front of the decks, and she saw me, asking me right away to get up, and for my surprise she gave me a CD named “J’adore Montréal” - and je t’adore Ana Paula. Love the CD because she played most of the tracks during the party, too bad I don’t know the name of most of them. What kind of music Ana Paula played? The best tribal ever combined with everything else, but everything with an Ana Paula style.

It was so cool to see Amannda dancing in front of the crowd while Ana Paula played her hit song “Sound of your voice”, she also played some great French vocals, and I’m sure she did to honour Montreal, and guess what, it worked so well.

I left the place at around 9:15am or so, not because I wanted to leave but because I had no more energy left in my body. This woman was just amazing and the BBCM would make a huge mistake if they are not to book her for the Black & Blue 2008. If the BBCM does not do it, I’m sure the Bal en Blanc people will have their eyes on her for the Bal en Blanc 2009. All my friends form New York City were asking how come they have never had the chance to see her performing in their city, well I’m sure it won’t take long to see this fantastic DJ playing soon near you.

A couple of months ago I said that it feel as if Ana Paula is playing only for you, and once again I got the same feeling, even though there were tons of people at the Telus Theatre, she made me feel special, as if she was playing just for me.

Amazing crowd, great party, incredible deejays, thank you Divers/Cité for such an amazing time. My friends stayed until the end and they mentioned Ana Paula was incredible at the end, dancing with the crowd, kissing everyone, just radiating energy everywhere, and the crowd did not want to let it go. What a party!!!

La Grande Danse @ Scene Berri/Ontario - August 3, 2008

DJs: Alain Jackinsky, Danny Torrence, Jester, Isaac Escalante and Nicola Torriero.Guest Singers: Marleen Menard, Yan Lavoie et Patsy Gallant

La Grande Dance is one of the most expected T-Dance during the Divers/Cité week, and it looks like the T-dance on Saturday has become as big as the one on Sunday.

I know there are lots of people wondering how come there was no Parade this year, and the answer is simple, Divers/Cité decided to spin off the Parade to another organization and now this event will only occur 2 weeks later.

In other words, Montréal is so gay that we decided to declared the whole month of August as our Pride month, plus we love confusing people from out of town. I wonder how many people will show up in two weeks thinking it is the actual Divers/Cité week.

I arrived at the T-dance at around 6:30pm or so, Isaac Escalante was just finishing his set, and it is too bad because I really wanted to hear this guy. I went down with my friends from New York City, and for one of them it was his first Grande Danse.

It is almost impossible to find your friends in the middle of thousand of shirtless men, and dressed women. Even if you talk to your friends via cell phone, it is impossible to hear them or find them, so instead of worrying about where they are, you just have to enjoy the party and eventually you will find them.

There are people from all over the place, and it is all about having a good time, and dancing to good music. Once again I apologize because I did not hear who was spinning after Isaac Escalante, I think it was Nicola Torriero, but I might be wrong.

Marleen Menard and company did a great performance during this time, and once the DJ started to play again, I was not impressed by the chosen music. Once again, if you are playing to an outdoor party, the music must be happy, not the one we are used to hearing at 5:00am in certain afterhours.

Heard lots of build ups but with no end, which kind of ended up leaving me frustrated. Never mind the music, I was there to enjoy the company of my friends and all those thousand of people from all over the place. Got to see everyone except my 2 best friends, which is a first by the way, we just kept missing each other.

Anyway, I only stayed for 3 hours or so, wanted to return home and rest a bit before the Divers/Cité Ball. The weather only helped until later in the afternoon, before that it was rainy and dark, which probably kept a lot of people away from this party.

I wished I had seen Danny Torrence performing during this party, but I think he was on before the Mexican guy.

If you have never experienced one of these T-Dance, make sure to write it down in your books as something to do next year, it is a lot of fun and you won’t regret going.

I won’t bored you anymore with my writing and instead just keep looking at the pictures.

Unity Party do Brasil @ Unity - August 2, 2008 (Ale Bittencourt & Rafael Calvente)

DJs Ale Bittencourt and Rafael Calvente
Guest Singer: Amannda

Saturday night, and I find myself debating between going to Parking to check out Stéphan Grondin’s new CD release party, or watch Brazil taking over the Unity club, with 2 Deejays I haven’t heard before, but good sources advised me they were as good as Ana Paula.

If I had gone to the outdoors Sunset Party do Brasil, the choice would had been easy, but I didn’t and at the end the curiosity won, and Unity was the chosen venue for the night.

Ale Bittencourt was already spinning by the time I entered the club (midnight), and let me tell you, this was not a warm set, it was a set in its own. I actually have noticed that from the Brazilian Djs, it feels as if there are no warm up set, it doesn’t matter when they are performing, they just go and give their best for the night, which puts as lot of pressure on the headliner DJ.

Tribal is the rule in Brazil, and in order to move the people with tribal in this city, the DJ must bring their best possible set. Some people claim this style of music is not longer what we like to hear over here, and we have seen many Djs moving away from those sounds (Victor Calderone, Chus & Ceballos, Danny Torrence to name a few), but both Bittencourt and Rafael showed passion for Tribal is still alive and kicking hard in this city.

Unfortunately I did not have the chance to talk to ale, but he spoke to the crowd with this contagious and vibrant music. It was just incredible the feeling you felt at the club, people were arriving and joining the dance floor right away. Strong Tribal tunes were released from those speakers and it was non stop from beginning to end.

Great build ups with strong ends, no teasing at all, just getting what you expected at the right moment and in the perfect dosage. He also added some progressive happy tunes, but because he was the DJ that started the night, many people only caught the end leg of his set, including me.

If I’m not mistaken, Amannda performed at the end of Ale’s set, and let me tell you, this girl not only sing, but she also dance like no other. Beautiful voice and I actually recognized some of her tunes. I’m positive that after her performance at the club, her music might actually get embraced by other Djs in the city. Great vocal, catchy tunes, what else do you need eh?

While this was happening I saw the security open up space for this handsome guy walking towards the DJ booth. Good morning Mr. Rafael Calvente, and I’m sorry Amannda, I could not continue looking at her show because I was distracted by the newest personality in the club.

Amannda live at Unity Club

It didn’t take long, and Rafael walked by me again, and this time I introduced myself - I told him I would be watching - and besides of being handsome, this guy is so sweet, big smile in his face, and as I said before, Good Morning Rafael.

As soon as took over the DJ booth, he took off his shirt (a la David Morales) and started one of the strongest tribal sets I have seen at the Unity club. It was hard, it was dark, it was happy, it had vocals, it had instruments, it had everything you need in order to make you body move until it says it will stop now because it can’t take anymore.

People did not stop dancing one second, everybody was sweating like crazy, and even my socks got wet - they never get wet, but it was too much. Rafael enjoyed what he saw because he kept giving more and more to the crowd. Big smile all night long.

Beautiful sexy dancers all over the place, great mix of people from different ages and sexes, and perhaps I only found some of the crowd to be a little bit pushy and not too friendly, but not everyone was like that, and I had a great time with my friends.

The place was packed in every single floor, and the best of all was to see all the Brazilian entourage dancing with the crowd; Ana Paula, Amannda, Ale and many others.

Rafael got a little bit hard at one point, it just reminded me of Victor Calderone when he gets into his exorcist rituals with his techy sounds, difference being that Rafael uses Tribal instead. Probably one 2 songs played by Ale were repeated by Rafael, but they were great songs so I didn't mind hearing them again.

Guys, it was just an amazing experience to be part of this party with these 2 Brazilian Djs. Ana Paula was discovered last year during the Divers/Cité Sunset Party, and she has opened the doors to another 2 great deejays this year.

Bittencourt and Rafael don’t be surprised if you are called to perform again in our city. In this city we love music, and you have to be good to do well here, and you both have proved to be talented and deserve to return to Montreal.

The only bad thing of the night, was the fact I was unable to go to the Climaxxx Party with Danny Torrence, because I had no more energy left in my body to do an afterhours party.

Twist Pool Party @ Parc Jean-Drapeau - August 2, 2008

DJs: Patrick Guay, Max Julien and Ian Key

Didn’t St. Peters get the memo it was Pride in Montreal this past week? It usually doesn’t rain during Pride (or Divers/Cité week / Twist / Love - just in case the “real Pride” people started to complain I’m misusing their name), but the weather did not cooperate at all with the outdoor activities.

To go or not to go to the Pool party was my dilemma, in the morning was Sunny and beautiful then it became dark and humid.

What is the worse it can happen I thought, to go and get wet in case it rains? Everyone will be wearing a swimsuit and I already have the ticket, so to the party I went.

Probably it was around 4:00pm when I got there, and I’m glad I decided to go because it was hot. Lots of good looking guys, I was just not too crazy about the music.

I’m sorry I have no idea who was spinning when I got there, perhaps I was expecting happier music for a pool party, specially when you have people trying to avoid the rain, maybe this is when you need music to motivate them to come out and dance? Talked to other people and they enjoyed the music, so maybe it was just me.

There were some technical issues with the sound, because it stopped 4 times, and it was not to change the DJ.

Anyway, I could had made my afternoon miserable by complaining about the weather or the music, instead and decided to dance and get wet with my friends. The rain would start then stop and then start again, thankfully it was not a tropical storm.

Last year the Pool party was the talk of the town, and it would had been the same this year if the big guy up there had read his e-mail about the upcoming “national” celebrations in this city.

The place was packed, and what most of the people, that had never been at this location, were commenting how beautiful the aquatic complex was. Indeed, it is a great place not only to go swimming, but to have those once in a while pool parties.

The music was much better by the time I decided to leave (around 7:00pm), and I left because I wanted to save my energy for the next party, otherwise I would had stayed a little bit longer.

There is no doubt I will be doing the next Pool party, because I just love the fact I can hang out with people in swimsuit.

Stéfane Lippé - Twisted Bad Boys @ Parking - August 1, 2008

DJ Stéfane Lippé
Guest Singer: Ceevox

Knowing there were thousand of tourists in Montreal, and hating to wait in line (yes, I do wait in line like most of you), we decided to arrive early to Parking. Usually people don’t start arriving until after midnight at the clubs in Montreal, but this rule does not apply to most of the other cities.

I heard by midnight there was already a 30 minutes wait to get in, and people were right in trying to be inside. Stéfane Lippé was on fire from beginning to end, and the more the crowd responded to the music the more intense he played.

My friend is right in telling me, it doesn’t matter what the weather looks like outside, Parking always seen to have its own weather system inside, specially when “water” starts dripping from the ceiling.

The music was a fusion of the good, chick, energetic and dark happy. Stéfane played an excellent set, bringing out not only the house happy vocals, but also some funky electro, some commercial tunes that we love to hear, some dark techy beats and everything in between.

Loved those little shorts and underwear wore by the sexy bartenders, and lets not go even there about the semi-erotic show presented by the guy throwing towels to the public - I wonder who caught the last one?

Ceevox, which I didn’t know who she was until Friday night - please excuse my ignorance - started to sing at around 1:00am. Happy tunes which I recognized but didn’t know who the singer was, and she moved the crowd with her voice.

The guest singer finished her performance and the party kept going with Lippé. The place was not packed, it was super stuffed with shirtless men, women, straight people, their friends, and an incredible festive energy in the air.

Did not stay until the end, had other things to do, but it was a nice started of my weekend. Wished I could and thanked Lippé for his great set, but looking at his smiling face I think the crowd did a good job thanking him in my behalf.

Toronto, Ottawa, Quebec City, New York, New Jersey, Chicago, and LA were well represented during the night.

Saturday, August 02, 2008

Quick note

guys, I know you are expecting to see pictures, reviews and everything else about Pride Montreal Edition, and yes it is coming, but first I have to enjoy it.

Stefan Lippé did a killer job at Parking last night, and I had a lot of fun at the Pool party today (even with the rain). I missed the Sunset party do Brasil but no worries, i will be checking the boys at Unity tonight. Tomorrow is a big day which will end for me at the PrideBall.

Be safe and keep partying ... oh yeah, the general view for last night party at the Telus theater was that Peter Rauhofer was amazing and Jester was not really doing what he was supposed to do.

Really sorry I will be missing Climaxxx party with Danny Torrence tonight ... wait, you never know, I might ended up going ... let you know next week.

Happy Pride
