Parking during the Black & Blue Festival

Very nice Parking, very nice, and if you see me there say hello.

Ralphi Rosario @ Parking - September 27, 2008

I've seen Ralphi do a better job than what he did last Saturday, he was so mellow for the first part of the set, and by the time he started to come alive, it was probably too late for me to pick up his vibe.

It was an okay night and I promise to return with details, but right now I'm busy with my P90X thing .. and no, the P90X people have not paid me to talk about them in my blog.

Crazy Abs

This is crazy man, and I'm pretty sure my abs won't look like that once I finish my P90X challenge (will start it next week).

Parking in October

I just wondering who are they bringing for their anniversary celebration.

Parking or Unity

here is my dilemma for the weekend, one of my favourite DJs from Montreal, Danny Torrence, is spinning on Saturday night at Unity, and another great DJ, Ralphi Rosario, is taking over Parking also on the same night.

I haven't dance to Torrence tunes in a while now, and the same is true for Rosario. If Ralphi was the one in charge of the Alegria party on November 2, it would be an easy choice, but he is not. I also know Torrence will be spinning at Stereo Bar on Monday morning October 13, after the Black & Blue party.

Mark Anthony supposed to be spinning last at the Black & Blue, and I will probably not stick around to see that, and it is almost sure I will be heading to ((((Stereobar))) to finish my Monday.

What should I do? Parking or Unity?

Cube Guys @ Parking - September 20, 2008

all my friends decided to go to Cherry, and for whatever reason I had to see the Cube Guys at Parking. Never seen them before and so I was curious about what kind of music they were going to deliver.

When I arrived I heard this rockish tune and then I started to wonder if I had made a good decision about not going to Cherry. Never mind, went in and checked out the statistics: more straight people than usual, the decks had been set up in front of the normal DJ booth, and everyone was wearing a t-shirt - if you have been at Parking, you must know almost no one wears a T-shirt on Saturday night.

Usually I don't make my mind in the first minutes of a set, you must relax and let the music in, then you can decide if you like it or not. Roberto Intrallazzi and Luca Provera are definitely masters in their profession, because slowly they started to move the dance floor at their will.

It was a refreshing type of music for a Saturday night at Parking, I wasn't sure if it was going to work, but the combination of house, minimal and electro worked super well with the crowd, creating an interesting and enthusiastic vibe all night long.

Cube Guys all the way.

Culture in Danger (Culture en Péril)

This blog will try to keep itself neutral during the Canadian Federal Elections, but this clip is too funny not to be posted here. It will make more since if you speak English and French, but I'm sure you will understand even if you only speak English, or just turn on the subtitles.

***IMPORTANT NOTE: To see subtitles, you need to turn the captions "on" by clicking on the arrow button at the bottom right of the screen, then hover over the CC symbol and turn the captions "on" ***

"This video, titled Culture en Péril (Culture in Danger) was created by a few Québec artists and posted on YouTube to denounce the cuts in cultural funding by the Conservative governement, led by Stephen Harper.

When Beau Dommage's Michel Rivard visits a newly formed governmental committee overseeing cultural financing, language gaps and cultural misunderstandings abounds, mostly when Rivard plays his classical song, "La Complainte du Phoque en Alaska" (The Complaint of the Seal in Alaska)..."

Jon Stewart - The Dayly Show September 3, 2008

I'm not going to get involved in our South of the border neighbour's election, but this is funny.

and watch while you can, because NBC has gone Canakhiztan on the uploaded videos of Tina Fey & Amy Poehler from last SNL

UPDATE: I have replaced the video by another one showing part of the skit.

and here is the scrip if you didn't have the chance to see the clip above (thanks NBC):

FEY AS PALIN: "Good evening, my fellow Americans. I was so excited when I was told Senator Clinton and I would be addressing you tonight."

POEHLER AS CLINTON: "And I was told I would be addressing you alone."

FEY AS PALIN: "Now I know it must be a little bit strange for all of you to see the two of us together. What with me being John McCain's running mate."

POEHLER AS CLINTON: "And me being a fervent supporter of Senator Barack Obama -- as evidenced by this button."

FEY AS PALIN: "But tonight we are crossing party lines to address the now very ugly role that sexism is playing in the campaign."

POEHLER AS CLINTON: "An issue which I am frankly surprised to hear people suddenly care about."

FEY AS PALIN: "You know, Hillary and I don't agree on everything..."

POEHLER AS CLINTON: (OVERLAPPING) "Anything. I believe that diplomacy should be the cornerstone of any foreign policy."

FEY AS PALIN: "And I can see Russia from my house."

POEHLER AS CLINTON: "I believe global warming is caused by man."

FEY AS PALIN: "And I believe it's just God hugging us closer."

POEHLER AS CLINTON: "I don't agree with the Bush Doctrine."

FEY AS PALIN: "I don't know what that is."

POEHLER AS CLINTON: "But Sarah, one thing we can agree on is that sexism can never be allowed to permeate an American election."

FEY AS PALIN: "So please, stop Photoshopping my head on sexy bikini pictures."

POEHLER AS CLINTON: "And stop saying I have cankles."

FEY AS PALIN: "Don't refer to me as a 'MILF.'"

POEHLER AS CLINTON: "And don't refer to me as a 'FLURJ.' I Googled what it stands for and I do not like it."

FEY AS PALIN: "So we ask reporters and commentators, stop using words that diminish us, like 'pretty,' 'attractive,' 'beautiful.'"

POEHLER AS CLINTON: "'Harpy,' 'shrew' and 'boner shrinker.'"
FEY AS PALIN: "While our politics may differ, my friend and I are both very tough ladies. You know it reminds me of a joke we tell in Alaska..."What's the difference...

POEHLER AS CLINTON: "Lipstick."

FEY AS PALIN: "...between a hockey mom..."

POEHLER AS CLINTON: "Lipstick."

FEY AS PALIN: "...and a pitbull?"

POEHLER AS CLINTON: "Lipstick."

FEY AS PALIN(AFTER A BEAT): "Lipstick. Just look at how far we've come. Hillary Clinton, who came so close to the White House. And me, Sarah Palin, who is even closer. Can you believe it, Hillary?"

POEHLER AS CLINTON: (AFTER A PAUSE)"I can not."

FEY AS PALIN: "It's truly amazing and I think women everywhere can agree, that no matter your politics, it's time for a woman to make it to the White House."

POEHLER AS CLINTON: "No. Mine! It's supposed to be mine! I need to say something. I didn't want a woman to be President. I wanted to be President and I just happen to be a woman. And I don't want to hear you compare your road to the White House to my road to the White House. I scratched and clawed through mud and barbed wire and you just glided in on a dog sled wearing your pageant sash and your Tina Fey glasses."

FEY AS PALIN: "What an amazing time we live in. To think that just two years ago, I was a small town mayor of Alaska's crystal meth capitol. And now I am just one heartbeat away from being President of the United States. It just goes to show that anyone can be President."

POEHLER AS CLINTON: "Anyone."

FEY AS PALIN: "All you have to do is want it."

POEHLER AS CLINTON: (LAUGHS) "Yeah, you know, Sarah, looking back, if I could change one thing, I should have wanted it more." (RIPS OFF PIECE OF PODIUM)

FEY AS PALIN: "So in the next six weeks, I invite the media to be vigilant for sexist behavior."

POEHLER AS CLINTON: "Although it is never sexist to question female politicians credentials. Please ask this one about dinosaurs. So I invite the media to grow a pair. And if you can't, I will lend you mine."

FEY AS PALIN: And as we say in Alaska...

POEHLER AS CLINTON: "We say it everywhere..."

FEY/POEHLER: "Live from New York, It's Saturday Night!!!

DJ Ana Paula @ Parking - Pre-Black & Blue Perfect Party

This is to be confirmed, but the amazing Parking resident DJ Ana Paula is scheduled to play on Saturday, October 11, a day before the main Black & Blue party.

DJ Juanjo Martin - España

I've been hearing a lot about this guy from Madrid, transplanted Barcelona. Unfortunately I have never had the chance to see him performing live, but what people have told me, and what I have captured from the clips, he is not only good, but what a charisma with the dance floor.

Parking or Stereo (when reopen in November), can you please have a look at this DJ and bring him over to Montreal pronto? Joder tio!!!!!!

Clip from The Week International São Paulo (September 7, 2008)

Qantas Drag Trolley Dollies - Pre 9/11

As I type this, a friend of mine is now seating on a plane on his way back to São Paulo, so why not show you this PAM ANN inspired video.

After 1996 Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras 2 Canadian dudes in 1960s PAM ANN inspired Stewardess micro-minis board a Qantas flight to Brisbane, and are put to work serving the flight by the cabin crew. Japanese school girls, Gold Coast pensioners and Post Mardi Gras Train Wrecks are delighted.

Sensation White & Sensation Black

The above clip is from what used to be called "Sensation White", which started in Holland in 2000, and now it is a worldwide event. At the beginning there was only Sensation, then it was decided they were going to split the party in two: Sensation White and Sensation Black.

Sensation Black focuses more on darker music, like Hard style and Hardcore, whereas Sensation White focuses more on House and Trance.

Finally, it was decided that "Sensation White" would become "Sensation", and "Sensation Black" would be just "Black".

Schedule 2008:

08.03.2008 Chile, Santiago
26.04.2008 Belgium, Antwerp
03.05.2008 Hungary, Budapest
31.05.2008 Czech Republic, Prague
07.06.2008 Latvia, Riga
11.06.2008 Russia, St. Petersburg
07.07.2008 Netherlands, Amsterdam
27.09.2008 Lithuania, Vilnius
25.10.2008 Poland, Wroclaw
15.11.2008 Copenhagen, Denmark
22.11.2008 Spain, Madrid
31.12.2008 Australia, Melbourne
31.12.2008 Germany, Dusseldorf

Nowhere in the official website (www.sensation.com) you will find any Sensation event happening in North America, nevertheless Quebec City and Montreal just had their own Sensation parties - are they affiliated to the same event?

Alegria Halloween - New York City - November 2, 2008

I've been promising for a long time a review of the infamous Alegria party, and guess what? Alegria Halloween is the one you are going to be reading about.

Sunday, November 2nd
Halloween weekend - NYC
In the Grand Ballroom music by resident DJ Abel

Webster Hall - 125 East 11th Street, NYC
Doors open at 11pm

Advance tickets are US$ 50.00 until October 10th, US$ 60.00 after. US$ 70.00 at the door.

Peter Rauhofer @ Parking - August 30, 2008

I had so much fun with señor Rauhofer, and I was a little bit confused with the opening act by Ian Key. Can't tell you exactly why, but I don't think Ian was the perfect DJ to open up for Rauhofer. Anyway, it looks like he had lots of fun waiting for Mr. Peter, which started his set kind of late (almost 1:00am?).

The beginning of Peter felt as if he was testing the water, trying new things, nevertheless I was unable to see a smile in his face, which would had been something super new.

The second half of his set was a killer, amazing music, and some new stuff dropped by the big guy. I really liked the remix of "I'm coming out", and like that there were many others. Very happy crowd, and Peter was feeling creative, nostalgic and I don't know what else, but was a perfect receipt for a great party.

Peter delivered lots of vocals, some sexy tunes, some darker moves, but all perfectly timed with the mood of the crowd. Stayed until the end, and the good thing about this night was the fact there was actually room to dance. I'm sure some people decided not to come because how packed they thought it was going to be, but got busy but with enough space to do what you wanted to do.

Physical @ Cherry - Erik El & Bruno Brown - September 12, 2008

I said it before and I'm saying it again, if you haven't been at Cherry yet, please make sure to get your ass down there pronto. It is a really cool place and the underground feeling is just what you need once in a while.

Bruno Brown and Erick El will be bringing their Physical night at this club, and I would highly suggest you to check it out.

(((Stereo))) @ Millennium - Victor Calderone & Danny Torrence - September 20, 2008

This is not the first time (((Stereo))) has hosted a party at Millennium, and it looks like they want to continue the fire alive by bringing their resident DJs together for a party.

Stereo, don't worry because you are not going to die within the hearts of all the Stereoheads out there, we are just hoping you come back alive soon alright? Ideally it would be great if Stereo were to host the Black & Blue recovery party with Victor Calderone, which probably were some of the greatest parties I had the chance to witness.

Never been at the Millennium complex, and although lots of people claim this place is horrible, I won't give my ranking until I get down there myself. Said that, knowing that Victor Calderone and Danny Torrence will be partying at this place on September 20, I might just decide to review the place myself. Plus I really miss Calderone and Torrence together.

Robin S vs Steve Angello & Laidback Luke - Show Me Love vs B

It has been playing for a while now, but it doesn't matter where or when, the reaction of the crowd is always the same - crazy. Probably was one of the most played tunes in Ibiza this Summer, and come on, what a way to bring back something from the 90's.

The clip below is at Summadayze New Year's day 2008 (Melbourne, Australia) - Angello & Ingrosso:

Happy Labour Day

This is what Toronto looked like during the Labour Day parade in early 1900's. Unlike most of the world, where the celebration happens on May 1, Canada and the USA celebrate Labour Day on the first Monday of September. Nevertheless, I do have to work today.
