Malick & DJ Vibe @ Unity - November 22, 2008
Too busy right now but I will return with a longer review. Malick did a awesome job opening up the act, and DJ Vibe just took over and sent me to heaven. What an incredible night of good music he gave us, and even Mr. Ceballos showed up for the night. Hard Tribal-Tech, can I call it like that?
Some of my friends in NYC told me Vibe was better than Victor the weekend before, and going back to what he dropped at Unity, I believe it. By the way, I felt as if I were in a mini (((Stereo))) reunion, because there were lots of (((regulars))) on the dance floor.

Call in Gay?
The California Proposition 8 has created a new group in the United States, and they want all American gay people to call in gay on December 10. "Take the day off work and volunteer to be of service" is what this group is asking, and I'm just wondering if this is going to work. Didn't they have a movie of America without Mexicans no long ago?

Saturday - November 22
yes, it is getting cold people, but that is not excuse to stay home. Wish I was in Madrid right now, but instead I'll be checking out DJ Vibe at Unity tonight. Junior Vasquez will be spinning at Parking, nothing wrong with him but he kind of dropped from my list. Stéphane Lippé is doing his usual gig at Circus, and then if you didn't have enough from DJ Vibe, he is moving the party to Red-Lite after his Unity gig.
By the way, I just decided what I'm going to do in the Summer 2009 - check my schedule below. I might change my mind, but I think it is going to happen.

Honey Dijon @ Cherry
If you want to go out tonight, and you are looking for a great party, I highly recommend to go after Honey Dijon at Cherry. The club has this underground vibe and it is really cool, then you have this girl Honey Dijon, which always plays hard. You can't go wrong with this pick for the night, and I might decide to drop by if my body allows me to get out of the house.

Ho Ho Ho Parking!
I really like Peter's flyer, it is very creative even if he wasn't in his last gig at Parking. Nevertheless, everyone is in title to a night off once in a while right?
I will return with more details about Parking in December, but lets first wait until November is over.

Sensation White Madrid - November 22
If it wasn't because I really can't take any time off from work place right now - someone has to keep the economy of this country running right? - I would pick my best white outfit and fly to Madrid this weekend.
"Ocean of White" line up: Erick E, Abel Ramos, Martin Solveig, Megamix, Derrick May, Sebastian Ingrosso & Sander Van Doorn.
The party will be transmitted live via Internet, and if you remember Madrid is a couple of hours ahead of us, so you can always listen to it before going out on Saturday night, and consider it as your warm up set for the night. Some Madrileños are complaining about the line up, but doesn't that happen in every party anyway?

and until them, why not listen to one the Sensation White Anthems (2001)

Malick & DJ Isaac Escalante @ Unity - November 15, 2008
I don't know why but I thought he played mostly commercial stuff, but how wrong I was, and you can tell he has been hanging out in Brazil for a while now - his music has incorporated everything that is good (and bad for some) from North and South America.
Escalante has a strong ability to keep the dance floor busy, and he doesn't ask authorization from anyone in order to do it. Tribal is his strong genre, which is complemented by good house vocal tunes, and my understanding is that he also played a lot of his own productions during the evening.
I believe he made a great impression back in Pride 2008, because there were lot of people that were returning to Unity because of Isaac Escalante. You could tell the crowd was not what you usually see at Unity, and I actually enjoyed very much the mix - half Innocent and half dirty.

Xmas Bonus @ Parking
Parking decided to open the gates, and will let everybody in for free on December 6, plus they are going to be giving out some VIP passes for 2009. I haven't seen their full line up for December, but I'm thinking is going to be interesting, specially since Unity is bringing big guns as well.

Deborah Cox - Beautiful U R
Can't wait to hear the remix that will come out of this video - I really like Deborah Cox, and I have had the chance to see her live performance several times now, being one of the favourites when I saw her in the musical "Aida" on Broadway.
By the way, Isaac Escalente is spinning on Saturday night at the Unity Club, DJ Escape is taking care of Parking, D-Formation is hanging out at the Cherry Club, and there are many other options as well, or you can always stay home.

California Dreams ... just for some
We are in November of the year 2008, and presently only Belgium, Canada, Netherlands, South Africa and Spain recognize Same-sex marriage. I also must mention that Norway will be the next country to join this exclusive club on January 1, 2009. Then we have the states of Connecticut and Massachusetts, in the United States, that have moved away from the rest of the nation by also recognizing Same-sex marriages.
I was in the United States when millions of Americans went to the polls, and by the end of the day, Americans had moved their country forward in such a way that the whole world felt proud of their accomplishment.
How come a country that elected George Bush twice to the presidency, was able to turn around and elect the first Afro-American man to the same post? Now, not even the French can claim to be superior to the Americans, because I don't foresee a black man or black woman being elected over there anytime soon. If you are reading this from France, please understand I'm not trying to insult your people, I love French and I speak French.
Some of my direct family members live in the United States, and by 11:00pm EST, when the votes from the west coast were added on, Barack Obama, the son of a black man and a white woman - two people which I believe couldn't get married in the United States up to 1967, because a marriage between coloured and white people were prohibited by law - was declared the winner of one of the longest elections in American history. I felt happy for my family, because they live in a country that had just demonstrated to the world that anything is possible in their nation.
Anything is possible? Yes, Californians turned around, and they not only helped to elect Barack Obama, but also passed the Proposition 8, prohibiting Same-sex marriage which had been legalized in May 2008. I understand other states also made Same-sex marriages illegal on the same day, but we are talking about California here people, one of the most forward States of the American nation - they are located in the west coast, not in the Bible belt. What happened to you California?
As a Latino, I feel sad to see that the majority of the Latino voters voted Yes to the Proposition 8. People that for the longest time have tried to be accepted as they are in the American nation, have just helped to take the rights away from one part of the Californian society.
God bless America. but we all know Deus é brasileiro, e como eu adoro meu Canada. My apologies for my rant, but I had to get this out of my chest. Now some humour for you:
Proposition 8 Protests - Dan Savage
and please New York, it is time for you to take the lead in this matter, or have you already forgotten of Stonewall, the beginning of the gay rights movement?

DJ Vibe @ Stereo in Montreal - Summer 2006
I know I have posted this clip before, but because I've been feeling a little bit nostalgic I decided to re-post it. This is DJ Vibe doing his magic at what was, and still is, the second home for a lot of people in Montreal (((Stereo))).
This should give you a hint about where I'm going to be on Saturday night, and please understand that the DJ Vibe that you will hear on Saturday night (Nov 22), either at the Unity Club or Red-Lite, is not the same you will see in the clip below.
In 2006, DJ Vibe was more Tribal, today he is more techy, and both versions are good, people evolve you know. By the way, if you look closely, you might find me dancing in this video.

Pacha invading Florianopolis in the Summer 2008-2009
Pacha has finally decided to expand to one of the hottest spots in Brazil, and this Thursday they will have the gran opening of Pacha in the city of Florianopolis.
I love Rio de Janeiro, adore São Paulo, but if I were to move back to Brazil, Floripa would be my destination, and once you visit this city you will understand why.
Summer is just beginning in the Southern hemisphere, and on November 13, Roger Sanchez and Juan Diaz (resident Pacha Ibiza) will take care of the dancers in this Island of love. I just hope this Pacha will be a gay friendly club, if not, there is always The Week International Floripa.

DJ Ana Paula is also back
I know it is still early, but because most of you will be busy with the Christmas stuff, I guess is better if I share this with you now. Ladies and gentlemen, the DJ whom has conquered Montreal in less than 2 years, and I shall say the Bal en Blanc would be crazy if they were not book her for the Bal en Blanc 2009, will be playing once again in Montreal.
Make sure to write down this party in your to do list. One thing, I must admit I'm not too crazy about the picture used in this flyer, but that is just me. Malick will be the one warming up the crowd for the night at the Unity Club.

DJ Vibe is back
DJ Vibe is one of the many DJs I discovered at (((Stereo))), and he will be playing in Montreal on November 22, not in one but in two locations. Vibe's night starts at the Unity club, then he moves the party to the afterhours club Red-Lite in Laval.
Peter Rauhofer @ Parking tonight
so Mr. Rauhofer is back in Montreal to help celebrate Parking's anniversary, I just hope he plays a super good set.
Update: Personally, I think Peter was a bit off during his set, maybe he just need a vacation. Nevertheless, he was actually smiling to everyone that was talking to him.

Tony Moran & Abel @ Alegria Halloween - Webster Hall - NYC - November 2, 2008
Do you know how many years it has been since I've been planning to go down to NYC for the infamous Alegria party? Too long, and this time I accepted the invitation of some of my friends in the area, and decided to hit this creation by Ric Sena, whom has taken twice this party to Rio de Janeiro.
I've seen the videos from previous parties, heard stories from different friends, and all have spoken highly of everything they saw and experienced. Alegria Halloween 2008 might have been hit by the present economic meltdown, because decoration wise there was not much to be wowed by, but again I've been told Alegria is not about the decoration, but more about the sensuality and the fun of the night.
Really cool idea those two dollar sign giant necklaces hanging over the dance floor, and interesting booth layout specially prepared for DJ Abel, in the shape of car right on the main stage of the Webster Hall.
The giant disco ball, with Alegria written around it, was very impressive, specially since it keeps moving up and down during the night, and I'm assuming it is a permanent feature of these parties. Although you had all of that, I guess I was expecting more.
Webster Hall - this is a really cool place to have a party, cool entrance, non existing security check for this event, coach check in the basement, nice stairs that takes you up to the main dance floor located on the second floor of the building, and you can keep going up to the mezzanine level, where you can appreciate the crowd from right above. Bars located all over the place, which makes it easy to get your drink wherever you are in the building.
When I arrived Tony Moran was still warming up the crowd, and I could swear the sound system was not fully operational, because the music sounded kind of weird, it was like the base was missing, or the power was lacking from the speakers - can't really put my fingers on it. Gradually it improved and in no time I was feeling the vibe.
Tony did a very nice warm up, and as expected he took the energy of the place to the next level, leaving the crowd ready for a nice party for the next DJ. Alegria is a gay event, and Tony's music was a mix of happy house tunes, tribal with tons of vocals, and sometimes a strong touch of the pure Latin rhythm.
Tony Moran
Don't know the time DJ Abel took over, but he came strong and keep going with a similar type of music started by Moran. The sound intensity changed, it is as if they turn on more speakers because the music came out nicely and clear, with no distortions.
Looking at the crowd, I can tell you DJ Abel moved the dance floor as he wanted. Sometimes he would slow down everything, then drop those bombs that no one could resist. He used a lot of build ups, and sometimes I felt the end was not as powerful as I was hoping for, but nevertheless strong enough to accomplish the up and down motion he perhaps was planning to create. Later in the evening Abel flirted with some transish tunes, and even went exploring into some dark progressive music, not for too long, because he would go right back to the good hard beat happy house music.
The crowd was a mix of ages, races, and everything in between - not too many costumes, actually the most popular one was jeans and shirtless - and very friendly people, I really like it. The place was full, but not jam packed, it seems the party the night before with Peter Rauhofer and Junior Vazquez was enough for some people, and for the comments I heard, perhaps it would had been a better idea to wait for the Alegria party instead.
There were some shows on the main stage, during the night, being the singer - which I don't know the name - the most interesting one. The theme of the night was "Pimped Up Alegria", and this would explain the golden chains carry by some of the people. Honestly I must say I was more amused by the two drag queens that showed up at one point in time. Loved their costumes, and sometimes I couldn't stop looking at them.
Quentin Harris was also playing somewhere in the building, but I was having too much fun in the main room, so unfortunately I did not have the chance to see him in action. By 6:00am the place started to empty out, and the number of people stabilized no longer after, staying with the same size of crowd until almost the end. The lights were used wisely, and Abel when he wanted to see the dance floor full again, he knew he only had to drop that delicious music that got everyone back together.
Overall, I won't say it was a fantastic party, but it was fun and that is what I liked. It was a very sensual night, with some touch of sexuality, with a lot of easy going people. Glad I decided to check it out and for sure the New Yorkers will see me again in another edition of the infamous Alegria event.
