It's been a while since I've posted anything, but I just want to wish everyone a Happy New Year from "The Big Apple." There's multiple parties & events going on, but I'll be attending the 24-hour event @ Pacha, with Victor Calderone & Paco Osuna. Here's a little interview with Victor in his studio as he's getting ready for the big night. Enjoy!

Harri Choo Choo Romero @ Stereo - December 12, 2009
Quick summary while I'm waiting for my flight to Paris.
Instead of going to Stereo at 6:00am as I've been doing lately, I decided to go earlier, and by 2:30am I was there, something more in line with the old Patius. Choo Choo Romero all night long I was told by the stuff, and I couldn't be happier, because I really enjoyed the music, and the vibe was like what I was expecting for an unexpected evening when I wasn't even supposed to show up at Stereo.
Not sure if the fact there was a gay wedding in the same night, and almost all guests showed up afterwards at Stereo, if this had something to do with the full house, or just because people were feeling like partying and thanks to our music saint - is there one by the way? - Choo Choo Romero gave us music to dance.
Loved how he mixed all different styles of house, from tribal, to techy, to trance, you name it, he just put everything in the blender, and the resulting cocktail was exactly what my favourite bartender had prescribed me for the night.
The whole evening was fun, and I must say it was even better than Romero's last visit to the temple, which was a while back by the way. Great crowd, and I had the chance to catch up with some people I hadn't seen in a while.
Choo Choo Romero did no play all night long as I had been told, because maybe by 7:30am or so Alain Vinet took over the decks, and what a disappointing transition it was. Not sure what Alain was thinking, but he was handed a nice dance floor, he just had to continue to party, instead he decided to mellow it down and I'm not kidding you, withing 30 minutes people that were going crazy dancing were already lining up to get their coats. I've seen Alain many times, and he is very good, but not sure what he had in mind when he decided to bring down the music the way he did. By the time I was picking up my coat, Alain decided to turn up a notch or more, and the music began to feel like what he wanted, but by them he had already lost me, and many of the other people as well.

a-ha - Update: October 16, 2009
"Here are a few small updates to the previously announced 2010 world tour information. Keep in mind that although the following timeframes and countries are not 100% confirmed, we understand this is the general tour schedule for 2010. As specific cities, venues and dates are confirmed, we'll add them to the Upcoming Events page.
In March, a-ha will spend approximately three weeks touring in South America.
There will be a two-week tour of North American cities in May.
The summer months take a-ha back to Europe and the UK for some festivals.
There is going to be a European tour to round up everything in October and November.
a-ha's final concert on December 4, 2010 in Oslo is now sold out.
The timeframe for tour dates in Australia is not confirmed, but it is the band's ambition to include Australia on the tour."
In other words, can't wait to see them either in Montreal or Toronto, or I might just have to be in São Paulo on March 10, 2010, which might actually happen because I have to visit some customers during our Winter.
In other news, I'll be off for a couple of days boys and girls, leaving to a city of light for a couple of days.

DJ Exacta @ Stereo - December 5, 2009
Sunday morning workout was the word of the day for me, and what could become a tradition (will explain more later why I used “could” instead of “is”) I arrived at around 6:00am to Stereo, and the place was kind of happening. Had no idea who the DJ was, and to tell you the truth I kind of don’t care anymore either. I did ask the security person about it, and I remember he saying something like Exactia or so, and I kept thinking it sounded more like a name of a yogurt we know.
Fresh and well rested, I was desperately in need of some good tunes to dance and sweat as I usually do when I go to a good party. People were dancing, but I thought the tunes were kind of repetitive and boring at the beginning, I was ready to write off the night when Mr. DJ started to drop some interesting Techno House tunes. Paying more attention and I liked what I heard, because he was evolving what it seemed to be an hour long sets with a nice build ups and a great ends. Good fusion of sounds, great potential for an incredible party, because Mr. DJ knew his stuff, and personally what I thought was missing were the people, more people were needed in order to add the Stereo vibe to the party. The place was not empty, but it was not busy, and it was disappointing because I was so looking forward the 7:00am pick time that usually Stereo have, you know when you look at your watch and then you look around and think there is no other place you wanted to be but here because of the amazing party?
I know Mr. DJ deserves more attention, but I guess Stereo has finally convinced me that I shouldn’t care who is spinning right? The problem is that is not the only thing Stereo has began to convince me about.
Everyone knows how much I love Stereo, and until no longer ago, I keep telling people the best parties I’m seen have been at the Temple. Unfortunately I have started to add the phrase “the old Stereo”. The new place is beautiful, futuristic, great sound, and I really want it to be my second home, but instead it is gradually becoming just a club.
Stereo, I truly believe the ideal behind the new concept for Saturday night is remarkable, risky, and with great intentions. Ideally everyone should be dancing and not caring about who is the one spinning. Sadly, this new concept I think has began to diminish the excitement I used to have when going to Stereo. Before, I knew who was going to be there, and I was ready for it, sometimes I didn’t like it because it happens, but most of the time there were enough people enjoying the same vibe, and each person contributed to create this amazing journey that until now I haven’t been able to find anywhere else.
Since the grand reopening, I probably have visited Stereo around 6 times, and have left before or around 9:00am except once (keep in mind I usually arrived at 6:00am at the new Stereo), and why is this? Because I find that no longer people are sticking around as much as they used to, and when people start leaving, they take some of the vibe with them, it is okay when we are hoping people start leaving because it is too busy, worrisome when you start looking around and the vibe is no longer there because the place is kind of empty. If you are wondering, at the old Stereo I used to arrive at the beginning of the night, and stayed most of the time until the end, which once meant at 7:00pm on a Sunday evening.
Stereo, we can always compromise, you can have your surprise element, but make it maybe once a month kind of thing instead of every Saturday night. If I’m paying CND 35.00 to get in, I truly want to be amazed by Mr. DJ Surprise, and so far this has not happened - it is important to mention I was not there for first weekend of parties. I have began thinking that if I don’t know who the DJ is, maybe I’m not willing to pay that amount of cash, maybe the price that will get me in should be lower, what about CND 25.00 instead?
Finally, I really want to be excited when going to Stereo, I love this place, and I just hope the management listen to the Stereoheads, because we are ready to teach the new crop of professional ravers what Stereo is all about, instead of just talking about how used to be.
If you were wondering, the DJ of the night was Exacta from New York City, really incredible DJ, and I would go see him again ..if I knew when. I also enjoyed the Samurai/Geisha performance during the evening. I just want to ask the security personal to chill out a bit, because some people are there to dance, not to be pushed away from the stage because you are too close to the performers.
Sorry about the rant, but I had to get this off my chest and I feel much better, so much that I’ll be going to Stereo on Friday night (December 11), and guess what? I know who the DJs are, but decided not to go on Saturday, not ready for another surprise.

Stereo - December 5, 2009
Full review in the works, and now I just wanted to share with you my feelings towards Stereo's new concept for Saturday night, you know the one, when no DJ name is advertised and you find out who's spinning on the dance floor. I totally dislike the concept, and furthermore, this new style has killed the 7:00am pick party time at the temple.
I spent 3 hours at Stereo this morning, and I still don't know who the DJ was. I did ask a security person the name, and it was something like Actia, or Exactiva, or Maxima or something, I just recall thinking it was like a name for yogurt.
Many times I raved to my friend about how great this club was, and one of the well known "features" was the fact the party really got happening at around 7:00am, now because you don't know who the DJ is, I find as it has actually killed the excitement of going to Stereo, and people just don't stick around until late anymore. I've gone back around 6 times since the grand reopening, and in every single time I left by 9:00am or earlier, because the club was already kind of empty and I didn't feel the vibe anymore.
Just wanted to get this off my chest, but don't worry because full review will be posted soon.

Early Christmas Party @ Parking
Early Christmas gift from Parking, no cover charge this Saturday and there will be a drawn for 2010 VIP passes. I believe this is going to be a marathon night of dancing for me, first drinks, then dinner, then Parking, then Stereo. I'm planning to get the flu shot tomorrow, but not sure if I'll be able to after so much dancing.

DJ Kimberly S - Los Angeles
DJ Kimberly S, a holder of a second degree black belt in Karate, is a California based DJ that Holden, our correspondent in LA, just told me about. After listening to her live set (a bit in the commercial side - Reflex is an afterhours in West Hollywood), I think a lot of boys and girls in Montreal would enjoy to see her performing in this town. Download the set and check it for yourself, just keep in mind, this is the only set I could find.
2009 (((Stereo))) 2010
If you were wondering what Stereo was bringing for year end, then here is part of your answer, December 31 will be super Made in Montreal, and January 1 will no longer be called "It's not over yet". No confirmation yet about which DJ is going to be gracing the decks the first Saturday of 2010, but is it possible there is going to be some Spanish influence?
