Climaxxx Bday Edition - Malick & Danny Torrence @ Stereo - Jan 13, 2007

Disclaimer: this is how I spent my Saturday / Sunday, which I'm sure is different to your view of the night. I've been looking forward this night for a while now, and not wanting to miss a single minute, I probably walked into Stereo a little bit after 2:00am. Have you noticed that lately the security guys have been checking really careful each person that gets into the building? Nevertheless, not sure how those private cameras keep making it to the dance floor. Great decoration of the place, the Christmas decor was replaced by this birthday theme ambiance, full of balloons of different sizes, and streamers of different colours hanging all over the place, specially around the disco ball. The place looked festive for the occasion. Slowly people started to arrived at the temple, and it didn't get fully packed until probably after 4:00am, I might be wrong on this one. This was my first time hearing Malick, and I was curious to see what kind of music he was going to br...

It's not over yet @ Stereo - Jan 1, 2007

Monday night, a little bit tired because of the NYE parties, but excited because it was David Morales the one in charge of the night. Arrived at Stereo at around 10:30 pm and it didn't take long to go thru security, and there I was, once again under the disco ball, and Sami Dee was up there having a party in his own. First thing I heard was "Happy New Year", and again, until I realized it was Sami Dee the one screaming his lungs out wishing everyone a happy new year. My friend looked at me and told me Sami probably wasn't going to warm up the crowd, he was going to give everything he had in his hands, and I should save some energy because Morales would also come out with a full swing. This is when I also noticed there were some guys that kept bringing boxes and boxes of beers to the bar. They must have sold out of beer the night before, and I wonder if they had to scoop whatever beer was left from around the city. The place slowly filled up with people, but it...

Bal des Boys @ Stereo - Dec 31, 2006

The idea was to arrive at Stereo at around 10:00 pm in order to get in and spend the count down inside. Instead, after dinner my friends convince me to spend the New Year at Stereo bar, where a cozy party took place. I was worried when I arrived outside Stereo and saw this big line turning around the corner, and even more worried when I was told that was the line to get into Stereo bar. I had to check for myself, and there was no line to go downstairs, but I could see some people spending NYE outside Stay in the bar for a while, dancing to the tunes of Neill MacLeod (Toronto) and DJ Soto (NYC). Didn't go up to the main room until around 2:00 am, which is the usual time I arrive there anyway, and as soon as I got up, I was surrounded by a sea of men in the dance floor. I have been at many parties at Stereo, but not even the Black & Blue Recovery Party have been as gay as this one. You could actually count the number of women inside, and what a surprise to have so many men...

Joubin + Chus & Ceballos @ Stereo - Dec 15, 2006

I spent the whole day looking at my watch, because I couldn't wait to get in the dance floor and start dancing to the sounds of Chus & Ceballos at Stereo. After so much waiting, it was time and for my surprise, I'm guessing because of my birthday, I was given a pink ticket from Stereo - muchas gracias. I arrive a little bit after 2:00am and in not time we were inside, and I´m sure it was a good idea to come early, because I didn't fell like waiting in line for too long. This time around a brought a friend, and it was her first time at the temple. She is one of those that claims everything in Europe is better, and I couldn't wait to show her a different side of my life that is neither better or worse, just different and special. Joubin was the one setting the tunes before the arrival of the Spaniard duo, and is it my impression but he doesn't look that tall in the pictures as he did in the DJ booth. Music was slow at the beginning, I guess good tunes to let p...

David Morales B-Day Bash @ Stereo - Aug 26, 2006

Disclaimer: this is how I spent my Saturday / Sunday - and I know your experience of the evening was different, but this how mine went. After a little bit of confusion with the line outside, you know the normal "this is where pre-sale tickets holders stay, this one is guest list and VIP, and this one is for non-ticket holder", I made it in with no much problems. Girl power to the security duo upstairs. If I'm not mistaken one of the girls checking everyone was new, and of course she was paired with the other lovely one, which I still don't know her name, and I will ask next time around. Nothing special about the decor of the main room, but with the new sound system who cares if they put naked people hanging from the ceiling, it is all about the music, the people, and the good time. Billy Carrol was already doing his thing in the booth, and I'm assuming he was given a crash curse on how to use the new machine. Classic opening set I was told was the music to...

Black & Blue Recovery Party @ Stereo - Oct 9, 2006

Disclaimer: This is how I spent my Monday/Tuesday, and I'm pretty sure your experience was different to mine, and this is why you should write your review as well. 11:00pm and there I was, panicking because I couldn't find my ATM card. I remember I had used it on Sunday night, and didn't noticed I didn't have it until it was time to go to Stereo on Monday night. "What am I going to do?" My friends are still sleeping because they had gone to the big party the night before, and I had nothing on me, just my ticket to get in. Thanks to the not so integrated system of my bank, I still had my second bank card issued by a Winnipeg branch. "Do I have money in this other account?" Checked the internet, and yes, there I was on my way to the temple. Not that many people at the door, went in very fast, and quickly I met up with some people I knew. "No, I didn't go to the Black & Blue" "what?" "yeah, I had to work on Monday - ...

Victory Ball @ Koolhaus (Toronto) - Nov 25, 2006

Mr. Leatherman Toronto 2007 was chosen last Saturday Nov 25, and in order to celebrate, DJ Sydney Blu was the one asked to spin for the boys at the Victory Ball. First I have to say the MLTC should ask the BBCM to show them how to create an interesting mini-show without interrupting the whole party. The mini-show which probably lasted for 30 minutes was too long and boring. The Koolhous at the Guvernment, is an interesting venue for parties. The sound system could be improved but the venue itself is very versatile. I enjoyed very much the fact they use their lighting to reduce the dance floor area. Meaning, when people start leaving, it looks as if the lights were only used in the area where there were people, shredding off the sense that the place started to get empty. This was my first time hearing DJ Sydney Blu, and I was kind of concerned I wouldn't enjoy her set, because it looks like she is totally into the proggy electro sounds. I was totally wrong, she was able to ada...
