Montreal, Canada

I was just thinking that I do not post enough pictures of my beloved city of Montreal. I was in love with this city even before I moved here in 1997, and it was the best decision I made at the time.  Don't take me wrong, I loved the life I had in Winnipeg - and yes, if this is news for you, I used to live in Winnipeg - but Montreal is Montreal.

Today I took my bicycle and went to different places, and one thing Montreal has done very well in the last couple of years is to create a safer environment for the cyclists.  If I'm not mistaken we have a higher number of cycling paths compared to other cities in North America.  We just need to start importing more ideas from such cities as Copenhagen, Berlin and Amsterdam.

If you are planning to go on a road trip this Summer, please consider Montreal, you will not regret it.  Now let me share with you some of the pictures of my city.

Iceland here I come

Confession time boys and girls, I know my work keeps me away from home very often, and now that the World Cup in Brazil is coming up I will have some briefing time for a bit of me time.  I was initially planning to take off to Croatia for a couple of days, but somehow it did not feel right this time.

Kept on thinking and Istanbul and Iceland came to my mind.  I know what you are thinking already, "why Iceland? Isn't cold enough in Canada?".  Yes, it is, but why not?

Finally I decided to take off to Iceland for 10 days, and find out what is that country all about. The best thing is I'm going to spend some time with one of my best friends in Halifax before I get to Iceland, and yes, this is going to be my first time in that city as well.

If you have some tips to give me, just email them to me.

Brazil - May 2014

It is incredible, we are already in the 5th month of the year.  I just returned from my Brazilian business trip, and it is sad to think I was so close and at the same time so far away from the Word Cup.  It would be my dream to spend sometime in Brazil while this event is happening, and probably I won't see it happening again in Brazil in my lifetime, but this is how it is.

One interesting thing I noticed was that usually Brazil dress up for the World Cup, the people and business place flags everywhere in preparation for the games. I spent time in Sao Paulo, Porto Alegre and Rio de Janeiro, and in none of those major cities I saw any type of excitement.  Maybe it is a way to protest the a lot of money has been spent in the games, while there are so many social issues in the country.

Nevertheless I know once the games begin, Brazilians will go crazy, and yes there will be so many issues with transportation, and everything else but I guarantee you first time visitors will fall in love with this country.  I also believe first time visitors will be surprise to find out how expensive Brazil really is.

This picture was taken from the Sheraton Leblon in Rio de Janeiro, and in the background you see the favela of Vidigal.  The contrast is just incredible, where the poorest people of the city own what could be the most expensive real estate, and have the best view of all.

and this is what the actual non-filtered picture looks like

and this other picture was taken while leaving Rio de Janeiro, from the Galeão Airport (GIG), and I have no idea what is the name of those mountains in the back.  Edit: the pointing peak at the end is called "dedo de Deus" (God's finger).
