Rumours are that there will be the movie "Wicked" in 2010 (listed already in IMDB - but who knows how reliable that really is), and I really wish these rumours are true, because if "The Wizard of Oz" was great, the prequel was just "Wicked".
I had the chance to see the musical in Toronto a couple of years ago, and it totally changed the way I see the "The Wizard of Oz". "Wicked" tells the story of Elphaba (the Wicked Witch of the West), and her friendship with Glinda (the good Witch of the North). Really cool to learn everything that happened in Oz before Dorothy's arrival from you know where.
There are so many fake videos about the "upcoming" movie everywhere, I just hope they really make one.

Weekend 22 - 2009
There you go boys and girls, it is weekend # 22 and I'm busy like hell. I have a bunch of people coming over my place today. We are celebrating the 11 years reunion of the Quebec Exchange Program - yes, 11 years ago I was the Group Leader of the Quebec Exchange Program in Manitoba (work exchange program), and I won't even start telling you how much fun that was (lots of work).
I hope everyone enjoy their weekend, and if I have the chance I will try to check Ricardo Villalobos on Sunday. By the way, I just finished round 2 of the P90X workout, and on Monday I will start round 3. To celebrate here is a picture of me eating cake .. I know, usually I don't post pictures of myself but I wanted to wish you a great weekend and this is the first thing I found.

Electric Zoo - New York
and I know it is too far away to start thinking about what you are going to do this Fall, but looking at what New York City is preparing, I think you might just want to start booking a couple of days off - and again, September in New York is still Summer anyway.
fine, you want something more like in May? Parking in bringing DJ Vibe this Saturday night, and I think the combination of the new place in this amazing Lusitano, you can't go wrong. Unfortunately, I will be entertaining some friends in my house and will have to miss this party.
or you can always check out Unity because Miss Honey Dijon will be rocking the place, and sorry can't tell you more, because I haven't had the chance to see who else is in town this weekend - and no, (((Stereo))) is not opening this weekend.
Montreal Gay Village - Car Free for the Summer
and remember boys and girls, tomorrow - May 28 - Ste. Catherine Street East (from Berri to Papineau) will become a car-free zone again, and it is going to be longer this year, the village will be pedestrian only until September 8.
View Montreal Gay Village: Car-Free Pedestrian Street in a larger map
and by the way, it looks like Rue Saint-Paul, in Old Montreal, will also become a pedestrian street in July - I know a lot of drivers hate it, but I think we should have more pedestrian street in this city, and why not eh? We close large areas of the city for many Summer Festivals anyway.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE- With the direction of original owner Tommy Piscardeli and GM Mike Rien, Stereo Nightclub is now under renovation. With the intention of retaining the club’s infamous spirit, a new level of opulence will challenge and please the most discerning of partygoers. The new sound system will surpass the sublime sound that Stereo has always been known for. Imagine a space as pleasing to the eyes as its epic sound is to the ears. A true experience for the senses.
Is it just me or this Press Release is a couple of months past due? Don't take me wrong, I love this venue, and many of my greatest time partying have happened there, but for the longest time I've been waiting for some sign of life, and now that they finally have decided to come out, you would think I would feel excited eh? Instead I'm feeling like "I'll believe when I see it".

David Morales @ Parking - May 17, 2009
Two days later and I’m still smiling from such a great party, two days later and I still can’t believe David Morales was able to do what he did on Sunday night at Parking. I must remind you this is my personal view, but looking around the room, I can tell you I was not the only one that enjoyed every single moment of this great party.
Guys it was just amazing, and if you asked me why, I will tell you because everything was just perfect, the location, the music, the crowd, the vibe, the dancing, the dancers, the lights, the sensual feeling, the sexual touch, the sweaty bodies, friends, just everything. I told my friends, this was not a party, this was actually a rave, one I haven’t see in a long time in Montreal.
First I must apologize if I’m going everywhere with this review, but because I had such a great night, I don’t think I can just focus in one thing, and how could you eh? According to Parking hot phone line (who would know there was one eh?), David Morales was scheduled to start at 8:00pm, and I was told by 6:00pm there were lots of people waiting in line to buy tickets (probably to return later). We arrived at 7:30pm and the place was already rocking, and I must say Patrick Dream was perfect as an opener, he even played some songs I associate with David Morales (is that possible?).
David Morales has been definitely missed in this city, and the welcome back the crowd gave him at 9:00pm proved it. There were people at Parking that I hadn’t see in a long time, and Morales was able to create this “family” reunion feeling in the room, because people from all walks of life were reunited, once again, under several small disco balls - and when I say everyone, I really mean everyone.
No speech, no stopping the music, no nothing, it was just like “Patrick move over because I’m taking over” and Morales did just that, he took over not only the DJ booth, but also he shared the control of the dance floor with the crowd, because the more he gave us the more we danced, and this only ended when the lights came on at 3:30am.
The energy and vibe of the place was just out of this world, it involved everyone and everything. The music chosen for the night, was perfect for hundred of men and women that have been missing a doses of David Morales experience, and what a trip we had, actually it was not a trip, it was an incredible voyage with music.
House music was the main menu for the night, and it was spiced it up with lots of vocals, classic tunes, tribalicious drums with more vocals, nice build ups with ends at the perfect time, maybe only once I heard a little not so perfect transition between two songs. David Morales played with the crowd, he made us sing not once, not twice, but several times, and each one of them the perfect song to do it. The crowd went into nirvana when they first heard, a Morales classic, “Say Something”, and it was great to see one of my friends experiencing for his first time the “Say Something” moment - that was magical. Morales even added a new ending to the song, and for those who missed because they arrived later, Morales went and repeat the moment with a different twist, but the result was the same, the room exploded right there. This was not the only song that was used with the same result, there were several of those moments all night long.
The sound system was tested by Morales, and I wonder what was the final score given by him. Danny Torrence spent most of the night right besides his mentor, so maybe I should ask him about it. The lights were once again well used, and not abused, so great job to personal in charge of the lights/screens. More dancers were brought to entertain the crowd, and I give them my pass, and love the fact they were using all possible areas to move their perfect bodies.
The mezzanine level became the cool off area for most of the people, if it was too hot downstairs, you just have to move up for a bit, cool off and then go back to the dance floor. Does it get hot? Oh yes, but if you place yourself near one of the several fans around the dance floor you are okay. Dripping “water” from the ceiling was not a problem if you think about it, lets just put this way, it was easy to get to the toilets because there was almost non existing friction between my body and the one beside me - I just had to walk right through it.
Incredible evening, and I must congratulate Parking for doing such a great job in setting the bar so high in their reopening night, actually it could be dangerous if people start expecting similar evenings from now on. I’m sure Parking is ready for this challenge, and I also must thank all the staff, because all of them made my evening a great experience. After all this bla bla bla, I’m sorry if you were not able to make it, but let me tell you, I really wish you were there so you know what I’m talking about.

Danny Tenaglia @ Parking - May 16, 2009
This is the first thing that came out of my mouth when I saw the new Parking: WOW!!! If Parking were to start a cycle of anabolic steroids, it probably would look like as it does right now. Wait, I'm wrong, steroids are used to improve performance of athletes, and this case Parking has completely transformed itself into something else, not just improved. If before the club was flirting with the big leagues, now Parking is the big leagues in Montreal.
Same entrance, but instead of going to the usual coat check, you must walk downstairs and follow a tunnel, which will be very useful during winter for people waiting in line. After turning left and right, right and left, you arrive at the new coat check - House Room and Urban room are your choices (different prices), but I forgot to ask if you paid for the House Room, do you have access to the Urban Room as well? Last night was Danny Tenaglia, so the closest I got to see the Urban Room was when I walked by to get into the main floor.
The set up of the new space is very similar to the old one, the bars, toilets, dance floor and DJ booth, are more or less located in their "usual" locations, but everything is bigger, sexier and with this extra underground feeling.
Great DJ booth, and I asked Stephan Grondin how he like the new sound system, and his comments were all positive. I must say, the music sounds amazing out of those boxes, very clear and nice to the ears. The dance floor feels great, and it does not get slippery when wet, and the shakers help you feel the bass in a different level.
The bars look chic, and you can tell the bartenders love their new work areas. There are several screens located right in front of the DJ booth, and around the dance floor, and the new light system perfect complements the new Parking - I was scared that the light person would over use his new toy, but everything went well, there was light when we needed it and darkness when we expect it.
Parking was packed last night, but it was not difficult to move around, which means great circulation, and less people walking on you while dancing. The only thing you must pay attention is all those little steps everywhere.
I know, this is supposed to be Danny Tenaglia's review, but I'm so wowed by the new Parking that I can't stop talking about it. Stephan Grondin, as expected, did a fantastic job warming up the crowd, and he did change his music at the end to make a smoother transition, but this is Tenaglia, and nothing is smoother with him. By 11:00pm Tenaglia had already taken control of the music, and once again he reminded us first time he came to play in Montreal, was at Playground, which is the actual location of the new Parking.
Tenaglia started mellow, but Tenaglia is Tenaglia, and it doesn't matter how he starts, he always find a way to move the crowd as he wants. House music, house music and more house music, not too much techno, some progressive tribal, a bit of minimal, some vocals, and an amazing energy. I was expecting a big party last night, but never thought I was going to get a rave - that is how I felt, as if I was in a rave. I also felt as if I was partying in another city, and please don't ask me to explain why. The party ended at 3:30am.
I might add more information to this review later, and I must say there is no club in Montreal now that compares to Parking. Congratulations to the owners, managers et al. at Parking, great job in reinventing this club, and thank you for taking our night life experience to the next level.

Cirque du Soleil: OVO
I've seen several of their shows, and I must say this is one of the happiest I've experienced so far. The music is a mix of bossa nova, samba, forro, electronic Brazilian tunes, and sometimes I felt I was hearing music with a 70's splash. Great production by Deborah Colker, the show is sensual and romantic, happy and sentimental, colourful and powerful at the same time - love the customs of all insects, specially the lady bug, which falls in love with a mosquito.
Montrealers, you are the first to see the Cirque du Soleil shows, and don't miss the one. In case you can't find tickets for Montreal, don't forget Quebec City is just a short trip away. Ovo means egg in Portuguese.

serving the planet
I was meant to post these videos before, but forgot about it, and I have not forgotten to add my mini review for Rafael Calvente's night at Unity - haven't had the time yet, probably I've been spending too much time looking at what is going on with the stock market.

Felipe Lira - "live your life set"
I know, too many things are happening until Mr. Felipe Lira comes to Montreal on June 6 (Parking), but until then let me start introducing his music to you boys and girls.
Felipe took his time to send me the link below, and this should give you a taste to what is to come. I won't give you my opinion of this set (I'll let you decide for yourself), but look for my review of the night after June 6 - another Brazilian in the house.

Last Dance @ Parking
Just because something is good it doesn't mean it cannot be improved right? This is how I see Parking's philosophy for their new reinvention of the club. Looking forwarding seeing the bigger, louder and sexier new space - with the same entrance of the old one.
Tonight is your chance to have your last dance at the old Parking, and Manny Lehman has been invited to say "adios" .. and have you seen who they have invited next week to say "hola"?
On the same note, I would love if Parking were to be selling individual tickets for next week's events, instead of only the combo option (Thursday + Friday + Saturday + Sunday) as they have right now.

Departures
Call me a kid, but I just felt in love with this tv show called "Departures". The show follows Scott and Justin around the world; a Canadian production which just started its second season (Outdoor Life Network & City TV).

Rafael Calvente @ Unity - May 2, 2009
Promise to come back with more info, but what was that last night? I know the BBCM don't listen to me, but they should keep an eye in this guy for their next big event in October.
Rafael probably gave us his strongest performance since he started to come to Canada, and I will try to write more later.
Malick also did a great job.
