Bring Derrick May to Montreal
I have never had the chance to see Derrick May, and for months now I've been asking any afterhours in Montreal (Circus, Red-Lite and Stereo) to book him, but it looks like they are not listening. Parking could be an interesting option, specially since they play in the big league as well, there have been weekends in which the best DJs in town were at Parking.
I realize he must be super expensive to book, but if even small cities such as Split (Croatia) are able to "import" him, why not a fabulous city such as Montreal? The main opinion in the public forum is because Montreal music scene sucks - then I look around and almost every weekend we have world class talented djs playing in the city. We also have amazing local talents playing in different locations, and I find most of Montrealers are musically educated, in other words, I disagree with those that claim that Montreal music scene sucks.
Back to the topic of Derrick May, it would be an amazing experience to have a party with him in Montreal. I understand he played at one of the massive a while ago, except at that time I was not into partying as hard, plus I didn't have the music knowledge to fully understand what a legend he actually is, thanks to the Montreal music scene now I know a little bit more.
If you are reading this, and you have the means to book Derrick May, please bring him to Montreal. Once you do it, let me know and I will start promoting this guy in my blog.
and now I leave you once again with the master in Skopje (2006)

Black Party - New York City - March 29, 2008
NOTE: see last posting (March 30) for the lastest about this party GO TO MAIN PAGE
28 years since the first Black Party happened in NYC, and this night of pure dark fantasy is ready to explode once again, and this year it includes one of Montréal super talented DJs. If you are ready to explore the dark side of your of soul, and I guess let other explore you, prepare your bags and your body and get down to New York City for this event.
Stéphan Grondin: 10:00pm to 4:00am
Jonathan Peters: 4:00am to 10:00am
Joe Gauthreaux: 10:00am to closing
The party is so big that some of the clubs in NYC don't even open up their doors. This is what is scheduled at "Work" (or Stereo NY) on March 29: "CLOSED!...CUZ WHO ISNT AT BLACK PARTY?!"
By the way, when is this club going to decide what is its real name, I know it started as "Stereo NY" (search for review in my blog), but then Peter Rauhofer decided to start calling it "Work".
Oh yeah, here it is Black Party 2007

David Morales @ Stereo - February 23, 2008
Short review this time guys, and I must say Morales was feeling super vocal for this party. Almost every single music had vocals on it, most of the time I would be in heaven, unfortunately I was feeling a little bit dark that night, so it didn't go that well with me.
In his defense, I asked several people how they were enjoying their night, and probably 90% responded with a 3 thumbs up, only one friend of mine told me he was a little bit disappointed. Conclusion, the party had all the ingredients to be the best party ever, but for whatever reason I didn't cook well, I'm wondering if I have expired?
Morales drops several bombs during the night, and loved when he played "Toca Me", and I wish he had continued that style of music for a bit, but he rapidly returned to his divas. The beginning of the night he went kind of discoish, and I have to say he was having the time of his life playing at Stereo.
The crowd was really beautiful, and as usual, you could feel waves of people coming and going. Stereo never got super packed but stayed busy until probably the end, I only lasted until 10:00am when I decided to move downstairs and dance a bit to the tunes of Just Jonathan.
I must also congratulate the light person for the outstanding job done, the synchronization of the music and the lights were just perfect. Lights were on when needed and off when wanted.
I do have to say one thing, the reason why I keep returning to Morales nights is because you never know what to expect from him, but you know there will be almost always something for everyone. Month after month you see new people experimenting their first David Morales party, and I have said many times, if you want to be introduced to the afterhours life, Morales night is probably one of the best to start with.

Patrick Guay & Ana Paula @ Parking - February 16, 2008
Disclaimer: I was not feeling well, so my apologies if this affected the way I experienced the party.
Last time Ana Paula was at Parking, I made the mistake of arriving almost at midnight, which almost left me outside. Arrived at 10:45pm instead and I was not the only one, the place was already packed.
Patrick Guay was having fun spinning for such energetic crowd, and the closer it got to midnight the harder he played, and I don't know about the rest, but I could feel the energy building up.
Ana Paula arrived and I had the chance to exchange some words with her, and she is such a sweetheart. I explained to her that usually Parking get busy until later, and because her last performances in Montreal have been outstanding, people either want to see her again, or get to see her for the first time.
Midnight came and she took over, and the reaction from the crowd was more than welcoming. Right away she brought the Tribal sounds out, but surprisingly not at the same intensity as her last performance. Remember, this is my second time seeing her, but my standards for her are high already. I don't think there was a need to mellow down the party, but she was the DJ and that was her party.
The crowd was beautiful, with energy levels that could take the moon out of its orbit, then again that is where I wanted to send the clown that was dancing at Parking. It doesn't help the fact as I child I was coulrophobic, so please Parking don't let clowns in anymore.
Slowly Ana Paula started to build up the energy again, and it looks like she has this ability to move the party to any level she wants, maybe it is because her contagious energy, or because she is very transparent about how she feel about the night.
The music was pure tribal, some records happier than others, lots of vocals, some known tunes, others that I have only heard from some Spaniard DJs, not too many dark sounds, and I believe there were several remixes played during the night, that were produced by Ana Paula - very good mixing by the way.
Nevertheless, maybe it was because I wasn't feeling that well, but I think Ana Paula can do much better than what she did on Saturday night. I had a great time dancing, and there were lots of smiles, and very little room to dance at one point in time. Ana Paula displayed once again this charismatic glow of energy, and she again danced with the crowd (not for the crowd as Offer Nissim).
I won't say I was disappointed with the night, but comparatively with her last party at Parking, she was not at the same level. Looking at the number of people she attracted to Parking, I believe and I hope, she will become a regular DJ in Montreal, I think the boys and girls have fallen in love with her, and I would love to see her spinning at Stereo one of these days.
Perhaps the BBCM made a strategic error by not booking Ana Paula at Circus for the Part 2 of their Red Party, because almost everyone was talking about going to the Climaxxx party with Danny Torrence at Stereo, where I would had gone if I were feeling better.
Toronto also had the chance to experience Ana Paula the weekend before, and the reviews were very positive, and I'm sorry but I did not take any pictures or video as I had promised to some of you.

Note: For those expecting to see a review for the Climaxxx party with Danny Torrence, I was not feeling that well last night, and couldn't go. When I woke up this morning, I was in better shape, got dressed and took off to Stereo. Unfortunately they were not letting people in at 9:15am. I really wanted to catch up the last part of the set, but I guess I will have to wait for the next Climaxxx :-(

Stéphan Grondin & DJ Vibe @ Stereo - February 9, 2008
Disclaimer: please remember this is my personal view of the evening.
Either because people are getting tired of Winter, or they haven't seen Vibe and Grondin together in a while, but Stereo got busy right after the doors opened. Thank you Stereo for not letting us wait too long outside, actually everybody was getting in quite quickly.
Decoration was cute, specially those hearts lighting up during the whole evening, and good try with the ones placed on the wall right underneath the DJ booth.
It has been almost a month since my last dance madness at Stereo, and I really wanted Grondin to break me again. He had just returned from Brazil the night before, and either it was going to be a night with an okay initial set because he was still tired from his long trip, or he would be still wired from his Carnaval gig and give us a phenomenal warm up entrance.
Phenomenal is not the word I should used, "Inacreditável" describes better what Grondin brought to the dance floor. Sometimes I even forgot he was just warming up the crowd. The mixing was perfect, the choice of music was right on, and the music layers were fantastically placed on top of each other.
Tribal at his best, spiced it up with some vocals and known tunes, then the tunes became dirtier and deeper, and almost an hour before the arrival of Vibe, Stéphan switched to more techy sounds. I turned around and told one of my friends: "if Grondin is playing like that, I can just imagine what Vibe is going to hit us with".
Transition was smooth as usual, and I was surprised that Vibe decided to mellow down the sounds a bit. Maybe he was getting ready, because the only way I can summarize his set for the night is he was possessed.
Unbelievable showcase of talent by this Lusitano, there were times when I felt chills. He played hard techy progressive house music and more. It was as if he was giving it and everybody was taking it as a bitch. I won't even pretend to know the name of the tracks played, and even if I knew, one thing is to know the name, another is to experience the track.
The dance floor was on fire, not just because the intense vibe coming from the speaker and the decks, but also because of the beauty radiating everywhere by those sweaty bodies. Numerous good looking people, and there was not even quality control by security at the door.
There was a moment when the lights were coming kind of from behind Vibe's head, and he was going nuts playing his hard stuff, this is when I decided he was really possessed. Vibe was able to enchant the dance floor by evoking deeper music, by mixing to perfection, by bringing a progression of tunes that were better than the last one he had just played.
Although the night had all the ingredients to a perfect party, I had a good time, not fantastic as you might had expected me to say. Don't know, I think my head was in different places at the same time. Nevertheless, I won't take away from Grondin and Vibe the fact they gave us their best, and it showed - you just had to look around and see the happy crowd dancing.
The light show were also part of the night, perhaps I would had preferred to be a little bit darker than it actually was, but then it was a Valentine celebration, and red was the colour of choice for the night.
I cannot forget to mention, Danny Torrence did an excellent job downstairs. Meal for the champions: Grondin as appetizer, Vibe as main course, and Torrence as a dessert - the GVT combo. We are definitely spoiled in Montreal, but we deserve the best.

We Are Here: The Pale Blue Dot
and here is something deep for your Saturday morning, thanks to Calo (L.A.) for sending me this philosophical interpretation of our planet earth, and I'm sure many of you have already arrived to this conclusion eh? We are too small :-)

Ho Chi Minh - Vietnam
the more I read about Vietnam, the more interested I become. I think is time to start planing my trip to Asia, just don't know if my family in Australia will be happy knowing I decided to visit Saigon before Sydney.

Update Carnaval 2008
The "Carnaval Eletronico" in Rio, São Paulo and Floripa is in full swing, and all those mega house and trance stars in Brazil competing against the more traditional part of Carnaval. At the end of the day, it's not a competition, just an extra layer of fun.
Edit: I have been just adding more clips - Carnaval ended on Wednesday (Feb 6), and it looks like Carnaval will absorve even more international heavy weights of the electronics music in the years to come.
Deep Dish in Florianopolis
Peter Rauhofer in Rio
Offer Nissim in Rio
Booka Shade in Camboriu
David Guetta in Rio
Fatboy Slim in Floripa
Tony Moran in Rio
Sasha in Guaruja
Tiesto in Salvador

Bruno Brown @ Unity - February 2, 2008
It was not in the plans to go to Unity last night, instead I was at this house party, which is my favourite thing to do right now, and by the end of the night everyone decided to move the party to Unity.
Bruno Brown rocked the boat boys and girls, and he did it with pleasure and no excuses. We had such a great time, and seriously, the music was so good. I've seen Bruno Brown at Circus before, and also at Stereo bar and Parking, and not once has he disappointed me. Every time I see him, I can't help to notice this sexy energy he displays to the dance floor. Great night, and I'll keep my eyes open to see where he is spinning next.
